The Phone Call: DPOV
It had been three years since I had last seen Rose. I had gone to her wedding. It was one of the worst days of my life. The love of my life was standing up in front of everyone binding herself to a man that had a bad reputation for using women. It was all my fault. I turned her away and said I didn't want her. When in truth it was the exact opposite.
I was lying in the bedroom of a house that I shared with my charge, Tasha Ozera. I had told her in the very beginning that I did not return the feelings. She seemed to be okay with that even though I knew she wanted more out of our relationship. Tasha was in the kitchen cooking dinner.
The phone rang and I picked up the one by the bed.
"Ozera residents. Guardian Belikov speaking."
"Dimitri? It's me Rose."
Rose? What would she be doing calling me after all these years. From the sound of her voice I could tell she had been crying.
"Rose? What is it? What's wrong?"
She sniffed. "I needed someone to talk to. Liss is on a vacation with Christian and I didn't want to ruin their time. You're the only other person I thought I could talk to."
I kicked into guardian mode. "What happened?" I stated firmly.
"I… I-I got … pre-pregnant and Adrian left me." By then she was sobbing. "I told him over dinner at a restaurant and he walked up and left after he said we were through and that he was filing for a divorce."
"Roza, calm down. Where are you?"
"I'm in a crappy motel in Clarksville. It's about a couple of hours away from the Royal Court. I didn't have much money on me since I wasn't expecting I would need it."
"Rose. Stay where you are. I'm coming to get you."
"No. Don't Dimitri. I just needed someone to talk to. You know, to vent. I'm fine."
From the sound of her voice she was definitely not okay. "To bad. I'm coming to get you. Stay where you are." I hung up the phone without a goodbye.
I copied her number off of the caller id onto a piece of paper. I made a bag full of clothes and some money. I walked out of the room to find a curiously looking Tasha.
"Who was that Dimka?"
"Rosemarie Hathaway." She looked shocked by the unexpected name. "She is in trouble and I am going to help her."
"What happened?" She looked honestly worried. Her nephew, Christian, was married to Rose's best friend, Lissa.
"Lord Ivashkov knocked her up. She told him over dinner at a restaurant and he left her there with only a little bit of money saying he is filing for a divorce."
"That poor girl. But why did you call you? Why not- Oh yes. I almost forgot.
Christian and Lissa went on a romantic getaway didn't they? Do you want me to go with you?"
"No. I'll be fine. I can handle it." I walked over and gave her a hug and kiss on the forehead. "Goodbye Tasha."
With that I boarded a plane back into the states to rescue my Roza. If I didn't watch myself I may end up having a murder on my hands as well.
