Little Lotte and the Angel of Music: A Very Short Story

Little Lotte was a young girl who thought of everything and nothing. She loved music more than anything. As her sick father lay dying, he said to her, "when I am in heaven, child, I will send you an angel, an Angel of Music." Lotte's father soon passed away. And when Little Lotte layed in her bed, and even in her dreams, her angel was always there, watching and protecting her.
One day, Lotte was feeling especially curious. So, she spoke to the heavens, " Angel of music, guide and guardian, grant to me your glory. Angel of music, hide no longer. Come to me, great Angel!" After a moment of silence, she heard an ethereal voice.
"Flattering child, you shall know me. Your Angel is here."
"Oh Angel! How I've longed for this day. Won't you show yourself to me?"
"Why must you see me, child? Your Angel is always with you."
"I want to see you! I want to know what you look like and I want you here with me!" The Angel refused.
"Mortals are not meant to behold angels. You are not content with what you have. You must appreciate all things!"
"I do, Angel!" But it was too late. Her guardian had fled back to Heaven to be with the Lord.
After that, Lotte felt empty; she could no longer hear the songs of Heaven in her mind. She realized that her angel was truly gone.
She wept for days, mourning the loss of her beloved friend. For many nights, she prayed for the Angel to forgive her, but she received no reply. One night, she sang of forgiveness and love, hoping that her guardian would hear her. "Please, Angel, you alone can make my song take flight. Help me make my music!" Then, she heard singing that filled her soul with a strange, yet sweet sound. After many long months, there was finally music in her mind. "Angel? Is it truly you?"
"Wandering child, so lost, so helpless. Yearning for my guidance."
" Angel," said Lotte," oh speak! What an endless longing, echoes in this whisper. "
"Have you forgotten your Angel?"
"Angel of Music, I denied you. Turning from true beauty. Angel of Music, my protector, come to me strange Angel."
"Too long you've wandered in winter, far from my gathering gaze. I am your Angel of Music. Come to your Angel of Music."
The Angel had forgiven Lotte, for she had truly regretted her selfishness and asked for forgiveness. The angel forgave her because God teaches us to forgive if someone is truly sorry. Lotte regretted asking for more from her Angel and she realized that, with him by her side, she would always be happy. And so, the Angel staged with Lotte for the rest of her life. And when her time came to be with God, it was her Angel that greeted her at the Gates of Heaven. Together they came to the Kingdom of God and created the music of the night. And if you believe in angels, listen to the winds of the night, and you just might hear the sounds of Little Lotte and her Angel of Music.
