"Ezra wait!" Jazmine called after Ezra. Ezra had stormed off after seeing his former best friend and his ex making out. He couldn't believe that Jack had lied to him—again. He couldn't believe he had fallen for his act—again.
He shook his head and disbelieve and knocked over his guitar as he headed out the back of the stage. He walked out into the moonlight onto a hill that overlooked the city.
"Ezra! Please!" Jazmine said as she opened the door after him. Ezra still couldn't figure out why she was always there when he needed her most. She was always exactly what he needed when he needed her.
"Jazmine I just can't believe I did it again. I am such an idiot!" Ezra said knocking over a trashcan.
"It's not your fault!" Jazmine said grabbing his arm so she could make eye contact, "and honestly, I think you did exactly what you needed to. You didn't fall for it when he said it, right?"
"No, but I sure thought that maybe, just maybe, he was serious." Ezra said shaking his head in disbelief. He looked down into Jazmine's brown eyes and just held her gaze. He almost felt like melting into her arms.
"See? You're a strong guy Ezra. You would have been able to play like a champ with or without his manipulation." Jazmine said turning her gaze and looking up at the moon.
"I guess I've always had to be the strong one. The tough guy. I'm not supposed to let my guard down." Ezra said shaking his head as he sat down on the grass.
"That's why we're here," Jazmine said sitting down next to him, "We are here, so that you don't have to be the strong one all the time."
Ezra shook his head trying to fight back tears. Real men don't cry and they don't show emotion. That's what he always thought and that's how it would always be.
He tried to keep his pulse calm, but couldn't when he felt Jazmine's hand turn his face towards hers. She placed a hand on his knee and Ezra knew he couldn't hold it in any longer. He let a tear roll down his face. Jazmine pulled him into a hug and Ezra held on as if she was the only person left in the world.
Through his anger, confusion struck like a boss. He began to question their relationship. He had never thought of Jazmine anything more but a really close friend. But at that moment, outside under the moonlight, she seemed much more than that.
He let go just enough to where he could stare her in the eye. The faint glow from the exit sign lit her eyes on fire. Her smile was enough to melt his heart into pieces and he finally understood. After his ex girlfriend, he let any girl with two legs chase after him, but she was the only one who didn't. Jazmine kept him guessing. But he understood. She saw through just his pretty face. She was the real deal.
"What?" Jazmine finally asked smiling.
"I guess… I guess I just noticed how wonderful you are." Ezra beamed.
Jazmine let out a slight giggle and lowered her head. Ezra slipped his hand under her chin and ran his hand through her hair. For an African American, her hair was well kept and he loved it. Jazmine made eye contact with him and grabbed the collar of his jacket. Simultaneously, Ezra pulled her lips closer to him as Jazmine pulled her body right next to his.
Ezra let his lips gently touch hers and his heart skipped three beats. The kiss was powerful and it felt right. Jazmine never pulled away, not even for a second and Ezra was relieved. She was his light in a dark place and he could do nothing but send his thanks to God in a mini prayer.
When they finally broke from their kiss, they both seemed shocked, but neither one made a move to completely pull away.
"Well that was something else," Jazmine laughed as she took his hand.
"Sorry for being so forward," Ezra laughed with her.
"Are you kidding? I've been dreaming of that moment for a long time!" She laughed as he helped her stand up.
"For real? Well I guess my good looks do leave that effect on people," Ezra said flashing one of his daring smiles.
"Oh whatever!" Jazmine said as she wrapped her arms around his neck, "Besides, I fall in love with a guy's charm before their looks."
"Well then I guess I'm the whole package," Ezra smiled giving her another kiss before the back door slammed open.
"Great buckets of cheese sticks! What are you guys doing out here? I have been looking all over for you guys!" Mia said as she spotted Ezra and Jazmine outside. Ezra and Jazmine had quickly backed away from each other when they heard the door.
"We were just—uh…" Ezra stumbled.
"Never mind that! Jimmy Fox wants to talk so come on!" Mia said ushering them back inside. Jazmine exchanged one glance at Ezra and smiled. Ezra grinned to himself and walked through the door. He saw the rest of his band mates excited and beaming.
"Look Ezra," Ezra turned to see Jack pouting, "About what we were talking about earlier—"
"Save it poison mouth," Ezra glared, "I saw what the two of you were doing and I could tell you weren't serious before we went on stage!"
"I guess there's no fooling you," Jack said smirking, "I guess I underestimated you. Well played,"
"Look you almost had me fooled I must admit. Fortunately I know you better than you know yourself."
"Ezra, Jimmy Fox is coming over here," Jazmine said grabbing his wrist.
Jack smiled a devious smile as he turned to leave, "good luck with that talk! Trust me! You'll need it!"
