Chapter One

Haymich's Beginning

Now, if you've read "The Hunger Games", then you know that Haymich is a drunkard. But what you don't is why he is. You see, Haymich used to be a quite nice man before The Games. He was strong and handsome, believe it or not. He had curly dark hair and bright, grey, dangerous eyes by the time he was 14. He had his wit, which will aid him in the future. He was the youngest in his family, which was him, his older sister, his mother and father. They all lived a sad life, worse than Katniss's. His father and him were hunters, but his father had been injured in the leg when Haymich was 11 and was bedridden, leaving the youngest member of the family to find food. Haymich had only been hunting for a year, (he had started when he was 10) but being his quick-wits, he had learned much in that time. Hunting everyday at sunrise, he would return home by mid-afternoon with a small game bag filled with all the treasures of the woods. Before dinner he would go out and sell or trade his game for anything to help. Still, this was very little. His older sister, Harriet, did better than him, being that she started her career earlier. She would sell her services as a housewife and do the bidding of anyone who payed her, no matter what. Sometimes she would be tricked by a man into being forced into something bad, but she did it without objection because her priority was family, and refusing would damage her opportunity to improve it. After a while, she made enough money to extend her career and make her employers happier, but she could also afford boundaries. His mother was a housewife as well, but only worked in her own home. So Haymich and his sister provided for the three of them. So every year when the Hunger Games come back around, Haymich and Ramona get as much terresea as they can get. And that is where Haymich's nightmare begins.
