What it means to be a Justicar

"This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable.

But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself.

There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing.

Some things are meant to be hidden from view.

Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue.

Some secrets should remain untouched.

Secrets can tempt your primal instinct, and lead you again into war.

Terminus Systems/ Omega

It was hard to relax and ignore the rest of the 7.8 million inhabitants that were dashing around all day.

Though Omega was said to be one of the larger space stations out here in the Terminus Systems, there actually was no real place where you could simply meditate in peace without being overwhelmed by the unbearable sensation of criminality, corruption and complete chaos, let alone the obnoxious odors of a dozen different alien species.

The bitter reality was just very simple :

The streets of Omega were crowded, dirty and dangerous.

There was no law enforcement; the few rules that existed were enforced by gangs of hired thugs employed by those who controlled each section of the station.

Petty crime was rampant, and killings were common.

Naturally one might ask themselves what a Justicar would do in a place like this at the far end of the galaxy.

It would be impossible for one such righteous combatant to cross her arms and watch while half Omega was transgressing more than a dozen rules of their codex.

Kahleera, an Asari Justicar, was contemplating the same question as she sat on the roof of a small residence in the slums, observing the people who passed by and did not notice her, unless they were ignoring her on purpose to avoid any trouble whatsoever coming their way.

It was starting to get dark anyway and the remaining passersby were hurrying to reach their homes safely before nightfall.

Clearly the streets of Omega were dangerous, but it could get far more hazardous at night, when there were less people ; and thus less witnesses, underway.

At 400 years, Kahleera was at the matron stage of her species lifespan, making her a tall and confident young woman.

But as a Justicar she had forgotten those materialistic and temporal values a long time ago.

Since she was a little girl she dreamed of becoming a Justicar, just like so many of her ancestors had.

But the galaxy had greatly evolved in the last few centuries and many Asari were no longer willing to sacrifice their entire belongings and leave their old lives behind just to become "some kind of self- righteous, medieval vigilante", as many of the other existing species would certainly phrase it.

They simply could not fathom what it meant to be just , let alone to follow the law.

And frankly who could blame them?

How could you expect people who were forced to live their daily lives under dire circumstances to respect and honor the law if the law itself barely acknowledged their existence ?

How could you possibly remind them of the importance of the process when they were constantly reminding everyone around them of how hopelessly broken the process really was in the first place?

The young Justicar was considering all this and where her true place in this galaxy might be, when she heard a muffled scream down one of the darker alleys.

Acting on instinct alone she quickly got to her feet and jumped of the roof.

With the aid of her powerful biotics she baffled her fall and landed gracefully on the ground.

After another few distant cries for help she was able to locate the direction of the sounds and headed straight towards them.
