Disclaimer: The Vampire Diaries does not belong to me. Sadly, the characters of VD do not belong to me either. The only character who belongs to me is Ryan. He's evil. I'm trying to get rid of him, but it's impossible. *Sighs* Woe is me.

Unknown Observer's POV:
What Bonnie Didn't See
I watched on, waiting in anticipation for her to take action as he backed her against the wall of the Grille outside in the alley. It was dark out, just a little bit of light from the street lamp shone in the ally. They were alone. His hand was around her throat, squeezing it, but not enough to cut off her air supply. He presses his body to hers and whispers a few threats to her. He lets her know that he knows her secret. That she is a witch.
Bonnie looks straight up at him, eyes blazing with anger, her hands wrapped around the wrist of the hand around her throat. She keeps her temper in check though to keep her power under better control.
My, she has become strong. Such a petite girl, but fast becoming a powerful witch. I shouldn't be pleased that she plans to use her power against this person, but I am. He's hurt her and Lord knows who else has suffered or will suffer because of him. However, it wasn't just her power that's finally given her the courage to fight back. Caroline, and her form of comfort, did that.
Flashback to the party when Bonnie ran to her car after arguing with Ryan
"Bonnie! Bonnie! Wait up!" Caroline called out, running to catch up to Bonnie who was about to get in her car.
Bonnie turned and faced Caroline, but kept her gaze cast down to the ground.
"Bonnie, what happened? Why are you leaving?" Caroline asked, worry lacing her tone.
"I'm…I'm not in the mood to party, I guess. I'm not having fun and as you and the rest of the party probably saw, I got into fight with Ryan." Bonnie explained with a brief, embarrassed chuckle.
"Well, what'd you fight about? Maybe I can help. Tell me, please?" Caroline asked, with an expression very reminiscent to that of a puppy.
"It's nothing, Caroline. Just a fight…like all couples." Bonnie replied, trying to look everywhere but at Caroline.
"Nu-huh, Bonnie Bennett! You are not going to get away with that. I've learned a thing or two from my mom about how to tell when people are lying." Caroline retorted, her foot stomping the ground as her tone rose to a shrill pitch in frustration.
Bonnie glared at her defiantly and muttered, "I'm not lying."
"Oh yes, you are! You wouldn't look me in the eyes at all when you tried to answer."
"Caroline…please. You can't help me. No one can. This is something I've got to handle on my own." Bonnie said softly, looking at Caroline pleadingly.
Caroline looked at her for a long minute. Her pleading expression began to crumble into one of hurt and sadness.
"Bonnie," she said softly, her voice filled with hurt. "I love you. You're my best friend. You have always been there for me. Let me now be here for you. Please, don't shut me out."
Bonnie looked speculatively at Caroline, before offering a small nod and sigh.
"Alright, Caroline, but do not tell anyone what I am about to tell you. Not a single soul. Got it?"
At her demand, Caroline nodded and crossed her heart for old time's sake. Bonnie nodded in return and took a deep breath.
"Ryan has turned into a whole new person. He's…abusive. He's controlling, manipulative, and can't seem to manage his anger. Without realizing it, I walked myself into this emotional trap and I'm not sure how to get out."
Caroline looked at her in shock and horror, her mouth gaping open. Bonnie simply stared back, waiting for Caroline to say something.
"I don't understand. Has he hurt you? If he has, I-"
"No!" Bonnie cut in quickly. "No, he hasn't hurt me. Well, not physically anyway. Understand that I was feeling vulnerable. I was missing Grams and I felt so alone and that no one cared, but then he came along and I had mistaken his words and actions for love and protection. I felt he was looking out for me when no one else was."
Bonnie paused once more and rubbed her forehead.
"One day, and I don't know what made me realize this, I understood that he was only trying to make me more vulnerable, more dependent on him. I tried to break up with him, but each time I tried, he threatened to kill himself."
"Oh my God, Bonnie! Why didn't you get help?! Why didn't you go to my mother?! She would have been able to help you!" Caroline cried out, anger and sorrow so evident in her tone.
"I wanted to! I wanted to so bad, Caroline," Bonnie choked out. "I was ashamed. I was too afraid to get help. I didn't know what people were going to think of me." Bonnie fixed her eyes to the ground and sighed shakily. Caroline tried to hug her, but Bonnie backed away, shaking her head at Caroline.
"I am disgusted with myself Caroline. I never thought I would ever be in this situation. I feel like I'm one of those abused women you see on the Lifetime channel. I'm trying to find a way out of this mess. Somehow." Bonnie looked at Caroline, determination and frustration darkening her eyes.
"Damn it Caroline! Say something." Bonnie cried.
Caroline looked at her for a long moment before stepping closer to her.
"Bonnie? I watched the movie Now and Then the other night-what an awesome movie by the way-and there was this one line that is way smart. It's 'Things will happen in your life that you can't stop. But that's no reason to shut out the world.'"
Bonnie just looked at Caroline as though she had gone crazy. "Caroline, what does that have to do with anything and didn't Crazy Pete say that?"
"Who cares who said Bonnie! Do I have to explain everything to you?! The point is you are beating yourself up over a situation anyone can get themselves in. Even Pink, who is way fierce by the way. It's how you handle it in the end that makes a difference. You're special, Bonnie B. I love you. You're my family. It's time for you to make a stand and kick some ugly boy's ass. If you won't do it, I will 'cause no one treats my friend like that."
After that mini-speech, Caroline rolled her eyes and stomped her foot.
"Now see what you turned me into? I'm spouting sappy, BFF things to you when I should be showing off my tan to Matt. You owe me a party...at your place. Now get you cheerleadin' butt movin' 'cause we're going back to the party."
She didn't even give Bonnie a chance to speak. She just grabbed her elbow and dragged a smiling Bonnie back to the party.
End of flashback and back to the alley
While I didn't witness the friends' moment, I saw it replaying in Bonnie's dreams. It must have brought her comfort for she slept through the night for the first time in a long time.
Presently, despite her current predicament, she smiles coldly at him. It only angered him more and he squeezed her throat more tightly. A mistake that cost him as a few moments later, he released her to clutch at his throat as his own air supply was cut off. He fell to the ground making choking sounds.
Bonnie watched him writhe for a short moment before allowing him to breathe again. He turned onto his side, taking large gulps of air. She took out a match and struck it, creating a flame.
"Listen carefully, Ryan. One wrong move, one attempt to hurt me, and I will throw this match on you and set you on fire with it. Do you understand me?"
At his nod, she continued. "I am turning you into the sheriff. I will tell-" Bonnie never got to finish as Ryan suddenly jumped up and flung himself at her, taking her to the ground with him. He sat on top of her stomach and slapped her face. Hard.
He was in a rage. He pulled out a switch blade and stabbed her through the shoulder. Her scream filled the air, releasing her of all control. With eyes blazing in pain and rage, she set him on fire. He couldn't scream because she cut off any sound he could make.
When she managed to stand up, she waved her hand and the fire died. It didn't do much damage as she had only set one of the sleeves of his jacket on fire and put it out before it could do more than redden his skin.
"I don't want to kill you Ryan-"
"No. But I do." Said a menacing voice behind her. Before she could react, a blur shot past her and the next thing she saw was Damon Salvatore holding up Ryan with the fiercest, deadliest look in his eyes.
Bonnie, hadn't realized that she had sunk to the ground due her weakened state. The blood kept seeping out from between her fingers where she clutched her hand to her shoulder. She stared in shock at the scene before her.
She snapped out of it when she saw Damon had slammed Ryan to the ground, picked him back up, and grabbed his head in an attempt to break his neck.
"Stop!" Her cry rang out. Damon, startled out of the animalistic frenzy he was in, looked at her. She noticed he turned completely vampire with his fangs out, eyes black with red veins around them.
Despite her fear and the pain she was in, she glared at him.
"You will not kill him. You're not God or the law that you can decide who lives and who doesn't. Kill him and I set you on fire."
Damon glared down at her, but he released Ryan who crumpled to the ground in a faint. He backed away from him, ran his fingers through his hair, and shrugged.
"Just trying to help, but if I had known you were going to be such a witch about it, I would have kept right on going to where I actually need to be."
"Fine. I didn't need your help anyway. Go do whatever it is you want to do." She retorted, glaring at him.
"I will." As he began to turn away from her, he suddenly froze and looked at her with annoyance. "Are you bleeding?"
She scoffs. "It's just a scratch. I'm fine." As though to prove it to him, she stood up. The effort to do so cost her quite a bit as her face paled significantly and her legs began shaking. She leaned against the wall for support.
It still didn't help as exhaustion and blood loss won out over her stubbornness and she began to collapse. Damon caught her before she could hit the ground, but she didn't realize it as she was unconscious.
He placed her gently on the ground and looked at her with a pensive look on his face before growling in frustration.
"She'd better thank me for this, the little witch." He muttered before biting into his wrist and feeding her his blood.
Her wound healed, but she didn't wake up, indicating that it was more than physical injury that kept her passed out. Damon rolled his eyes.
"Great," he muttered. "She better not ever say that I'm a monster. Monsters don't take care of ridiculous witches home. Well, at least this might make Elena realize she's with the wrong brother." He chuckled at that last statement, though the smile quickly faded as he noticed Ryan began twitching his fingers.
Damon glared and his jaw clenched. He gently moved Bonnie from his firm hold to the cold ground. He looked away from her as she made a slight whimper and stood to walk over to Ryan. He waited until his eyes opened and then he grabbed him looking intently into his eyes.
"You will go to the hospital and get your wounds taken care of. You will leave Bonnie alone and you will not do or say anything that could hurt her in any way. If you ever run into her, stay the hell away from her."
Damon released him, walked back over to Bonnie, scooped her up into his arms, and left. The Grille wasn't too far from her house, just a 10 minute walk. She stayed limp in his arms, still passed out, while he grumbled the whole way there about witches who never know how to stay out of trouble and end up involving vampires in their problems.
Ridiculously stupid man that Damon Salvatore.
When he made it to her house, he realized he couldn't get in. He cursed and then rang the doorbell and waited. No one came to the door.
"Apparently, your dad is MIA." He said, glancing down at her. Damon then growled in frustration.
"Bonnie? Bonnie? Bonnie! Wake up!" Damon yelled, before looking around to make sure he didn't disturb the neighbors. He gently shook her a couple times until she moaned in protest.
"Hell, wake up! You need to let me inside your house. Wake up!" He whispered fiercely. She didn't budge. He looked resigned.
He turned around and walked around the house and into the backyard. He saw a lounge chair and with a relieved sigh walked over to it and gently laid her down in it.
He backed away from her quickly, but couldn't pull his eyes away from her. He turned away and started to walk away from her, but he stopped and turned back. He did this once more before growling and running his hands through is hair in agitation.
He walked back over to her and knelt down. He brushed her hair away from her face and studied her for a good couple minutes. He finally sighed.
"I don't know what it is about you, little fire ball. You're…annoying, but cute. I'm not the only monster around so don't scream your pretty little head off-or set me on fire- if you find me sleeping here."
With that said, he sat her up so he could sit behind her. Within a brief moment, they were both resting comfortably. He was lying on the lounge with her nestled between his legs, her back resting against his chest, and his arms around her waist.
"Now don't take advantage of my innocence while I sleep, wicked witch. Not until you put a ring on my finger." He muttered, a sleepy smirk on his face at his own stupid joke.
I watched them sleep for a while before chuckling to myself. I just realized there were three other lounge chairs, but I suppose Damon didn't realize or didn't care. After all, he is a womanizer. A womanizer who has fallen under the spell of a green-eyed, sassy witch
Now, I feel as though I can rest peacefully. It's not just Caroline watching out for my precious baby. Damon Salvatore is as well. I hope he realizes quickly what a treasure she is. A treasure that he now clutches protectively.
I glide towards them and stoop down to kiss her cheek, though she can't feel it. I whisper to her though neither one could hear it.
"My baby, Bonnie. You'll never realize how much I love you. You are my world. It's time you let go of your sadness and anger and guilt. It was my time to go. You, Elena, Stefan, and even that stupid ass who's holding you are not to blame for my death. Everything happens for a reason. Let it all go and know that I will always be watching over you, baby."
I kissed her one last time and began to float away from her. I do have one final stop though before I leave this world completely.
Within the blink of an eye, I was standing in Caroline's room. I walked over to her sleeping form and chuckled. I do wonder how a girl so bratty and spunky can look so angelic in her sleep.
I bent down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Of all the people in this town to do the unexpected, you sure deserve an award. For all your snobbish pretense, you're just a scared, lonely girl. A scared, lonely girl with a heart of gold. You stayed tough, but true to Bonnie. She needs that and you proved yourself to be cut out for the job. I only wish you realized how remarkable you really are. Since you're so fond of famous lines here is one for you. 'Stay gold.'"
With that said, I left for good.
