Kagome stood up from the small pink chair, gazing at the sleeping infant in her arms. She watched the tiny girl's chest move with every small breath she took and smiled. She gingerly placed her in the pink crib and covered her with a soft pink blanket. Kagome carefully brushed away a few strands of the baby's soft white hair. The little girl reminded Kagome so much of Inuyasha, that it nearly brought tears to her eyes. Whenever she held her daughter, she remembered her time in feudal Japan.
It had been about two years before, when Kagome and her friends were finally able to defeat Naraku. Although it hurt Kagome to admit it, the victory was mainly due to Kikyo's sacrifice. Kikyo had broken Naraku's barrier and had fought so that when Inuyasha administered only a few blows Naraku was defeated. Kikyo had wasted so much energy, that she fell just moments after Naraku was defeated. Inuyasha made sure that Kikyo was buried properly, in front of a boulder, carving her name into the stone.
That night, Kagome watched Inuyasha as he sat in front of that boulder and he shed a single tear. She walked over and sat beside him.
"It's not your fault." Kagome said, sensing what he was feeling, "There was nothing we could have done. Besides, she's probably better off now. She was living a half life here on earth, and I'm sure she hated it."
Inuyasha looked Kagome in the eye. "I know," he said, " but I still can't believe she's really gone."
Kagome looked down at the ground she managed the courage to say, "I'm still here. Isn't that good enough?"
Inuyasha looked at Kagome and smiled. "I guess you're right. I have you, and I don't need anything else."
"Kagome?" Inuyasha asked, "What do people in your time do about getting married."
"Well, the woman wears a white dress, and the man wears a tux. They invite their family and friends, and then well…they get married. Why'd you want to know?"
"Would you…well…marry me?" he asked giving Kagome a questioning look. When she didn't respond, he took it for a no. He looked down discouraged. "I guess if you don't want to…then that's fine too. I mean…"
Kagome kissed Inuyasha gently on the lips and said, "Does that feel like a no to you?" Inuyasha smiled and pulled her into a hug. She sighed as she looked up at this face.
"I love you." she said as she rested her head on his shoulder.
"I love you too, Kagome." he said as he kissed the top of her head and smiled wide.
