Dinosaurs on a Spaceship

Clara's POV:

I would be asleep for thousands of years, but it would only feel like a few minutes...at least, that's what the technicians told me, as I laid down in the cryogenic sleep chamber.

Still, I was surprised to wake up with an unfamiliar face standing over me.

"My, aren't you a pretty one." He looked me up & down in a way that made my skin crawl. "I think I might keep you."

"Did we make it? Have we arrived at our new home world?" I asked, carefully lifting myself out of the chamber. Perhaps he was an ambassador from our new planet. He seemed strange enough. His skin was smooth, if hairy, with no trace of scales at all.

"Your people have most certainly reached their final destination. You seem to have the most interesting cargo on this ship."

"This ship is one of the greatest achievements of the Silurians." I said, proudly. "We carry our culture through the stars, hoping to find a new home." I was so excited. Ever since I was little, I had always longed to see the stars a little bit closer, to see what new adventures might be around the next corner.

"Oh? Why's that?" he asked, as we walked along the corridor. He walked with a slight limp, as if he had great pain in his legs.

"There was an asteroid headed straight for it." I said.

"No survivors?"

"We all survived." I said. "We're all here."

"Good. Getting rid of you lot will make the dinosaurs much more valuable."

"What do you mean, getting rid of us?" I asked. We happened to pass by a window. What I saw made me stop cold.

I saw my brothers & sisters, everybody I ever knew…in space. No oxygen suit, no escape pod, nothing…nothing to keep them alive in the vacuum of space.

"Who are you?" I asked, horrified.

"My name is Solomon." he said. "But you can call me…Sir." He seemed smug. "I bet a pretty face like yours will fetch a nice price…or maybe I'll keep you for my own amusement."

"My name is Clara. I am a Silurian, & I am not anybody's pet." I said, with a hiss.

"My possessions do not speak to me in that kind of language." Solomon said. "Injure her."

I turned to run, but a giant metallic beast blocked my path. It fired a laser at my chest. The pain was so intense that it caused me to black out.

When I awoke, I found myself lying on the ground. I had been moved, but I wasn't sure where I was on the ship.

"I'm sorry it has to be like this." Solomon said. I could see him standing in front of a window, & could hear his voice through an intercom. "But I took the liberty of scanning you after you passed out. You fetch a nice price, but your dinosaurs are worth nearly ten times as much. I'm afraid you're just more trouble than you're worth."

I heard a hissing behind me. I knew instantly which room I was in.

I was in one of the air locks…& it was opening.

I had always wanted to see the stars a little bit closer.

Just not like this.

I've had a bad case of writer's block this past summer, & I wrote this as something to help break through it. I figured that, since I was having trouble with my ideas for a multi chaptered story, I'd work on this collection of one shots for a while.

But writer's block is a funny thing, & writing this actually helped me break through & start working on an idea that I love. I really liked how this turned out, so I thought I'd share it with all of you!
