"Do you think that it's possible that we don't exist?"

The question was posed randomly during a lunch break. At the table was Russia, Matthew, France, America, England, Ukraine, and Belarus in that order going counter-clockwise. They were all attempting to eat with some amount of peace. They had all noticed that Alfred had been unusually quiet that day. That could only mean one terrible thing- he had been thinking.

"What do you mean, lad?" England was the first to inquire.

"Do you guys all remember the day that the rift in the universe, like, appeared during that one meeting?" There were many nods and sounds of confirmation so he continued. "Well, you know how it turned out that it was actually a alternate universe that ran parallel to ours where we were all girls and-"

"You should get to the point before I make you, da?" Russia said impatiently before Matthew patted his arm to get him to calm down.

"Well, anyway. I was thinking that if there was a dimension where all of us are girls then there could be one where were not there at all. Like, all the countries are, but were not. If the countries weren't personified into us, then what are the countries? What if we couldn't walk or talk or meet or citizens.

" What if since we couldn't none of us would be friends? Then none of us would be a family. None of us would have any brothers, sisters, fathers, or anything! It would be terrible. We would just be imaginary lines that the people decided to draw and then fight over blindly. There would be no reason for us not to fight. There would be so many wars that wouldn't have happened if we were friends.

"What if we couldn't be there to teach them, or help them, or celebrate with them? They would have no idea what it was they would be fighting for in their wars. Would they still be loyal to us? Would they even care where they were from? Or worse, what if we were there, but they didn't know it."

By the end of it he was close to tears, and for good reason. Their people were like their children. Each was precious. They would do what ever it takes to make sure they were happy and safe. It would be everyone's worst nightmare to not be there for them.

"There's no way thats true, Alfred! Don't even worry about it." Matthew said with a laugh to relieve the tension. They all joined in, but all silently wondered... what if?

Ah, here I go writing more angst.
