He was feigning sleep once again when he heard it.
It was barely noticeable, just a quick flicker of the street-light and a sudden shattering of glass.
But he knew better than to dismiss it.
He silently crept out of bed, retrieved the colt from its place under the dresser, and exited Lisa's room.
And as he opened the front door with the gun gripped tightly in his hand, a sound of thunder echoed across the sky.
He scanned the street for danger and turned to re-enter the house when he was startled by the sudden presence of a hand on his shoulder.
And when he turned to face the stranger, his heart skipped a beat.
"Sammy?" he whispered.
But then the figure's eyes flashed yellow and the night became as black and as desolate as the pit.
"Hey there Dean-o, it's been a while."
