Lost.

Everything was lost.

And nothing makes sense anymore.

Lost.

Seitaro moves slowly his hand towards mine. I hesitate.

"Rin…", he whispers.

"Lost", I reply.

He can't say anything, because I know he was thinking the same word. I know he also has that feeling, eating him from the inside. But he holds my hand and he smiles. And he says nothing.

The hideous face of Yuka comes to my mind and there's nothing I could do to protect me from shivering again. I close my eyes, as if that simple gesture had the power to stop the images and stop the fear. Seitaro notices it, and he drops my hand while he starts hugging knees. And he's not smiling anymore.

Lost.

Yuuta tried to kill me, didn't he? He tried it. And all I could do was stay there, ecstatic and praying for his madness to end. But I didn't die. It was him. And sometimes I wish it was me instead. Because I feel like Yuka's dead was my fault, and then Yuuta's too.

And all my friends are lost.

Lost.

Except Seitaro.

But he doesn't seem like he's the same neither. He doesn't smile and, if he does, it's not the warm smile he used to had. It's a sad one. A deeply sad one. And even when he holds my hand it feels different, maybe because we haven't held hands since we were in the kindergarten, maybe because his hands are also cold and sad.

I take a look at the swamp. The water's so calm it almost seems like it's waiting for something. The colours don't look so hideous when seeing from so close. I reach out and try to touch it. The water feels odd on my skin. It's supposed to feel disgusting, but it doesn't at all. Just odd. I turn my face and gaze into Seitaro's eyes. He understands and he also dips his hand on the swamp. Then I get up.

"Let's go, Seitaro", I mutter.

He nods and stands by my side.

"Let's go together", he replies.

We hold hands again and, step by step, the water doesn't feel harsh on our bodies. It doesn't hurt. In fact I like it, I like that feeling. "It's not painful, is it?", I think as I keep walking and start grinning at Seitaro. He can't smile, but he tries. And suddenly all I see is darkness.

Lost.

There was a song about a mermaid, people used to sing it when I was younger. The mermaid was drowned in a swamp. The mermaid was cursed. The mermaid was beautiful.

There was a song about four young people, they went on a trip through the mountains and ended up in a house near a swamp. Two of them died, two of them were about to. But when they died, they died beautifully, and they remained at that place.

(Lost).

Deep in the swamp.
