It hadn't started out this way.

It had started out as Emma stopping by to help out a poor smoker by bringing him food, and listening when he felt like sharing anything about himself.

Eventually, they could even be called friends.

Emma had never meant to fall for Tim as he was the type of man that her parents told her to never fall for as a future with him would be 'impossible' as her parents always told her.

She knew that it would be difficult to maintain a relationship with a recovering druggie that also seemed to be OCD with a love for money.

His only loves seemed to be drugs and money, but they did not dissuade her from trying to build up a relationship with him.

He could have contracted any number of diseases from his lifestyle choices, or he could even be dying right this second yet Emma could not stop herself from loving him as it had easily became a part of her; no, it was not because of her compassionate nature that she fell for a homeless druggie.

"Why do things have to be this way?" She sighed as she leaned against Tim's shoulder.

"They don't have to be." The meaning was clear in his voice; it rang out, "You can leave anytime," with out him having to say those dreadful words.

Emma sighed, "I love you too much."

"You shouldn't." The Dutchman told her.

"But I do." She leaned closer as if she was challenging him to deny her feelings or force them away.

Tim seemed to sigh in response.

Emma leaned closer still, and let their lips meet in a sweet, chaste kiss.

Tim held her tightly to him as if he was afraid that she would leave him never to return again despite her feelings.

"I love you, Tim." Her words were soft and sweet let out of a kind hearted woman in the best way.

"I love you, too." Tim grumbled as his eyes left her almost in a sad, lost way.

"I'm not going to leave you." The determination in her voice could stop a fierce predator from ripping through her flesh in it's tracks.

"You will." Tim seemed to be convinced of that fact.

"I will never leave you." Emma scooted impossibly closer to the male by her side.

"You don't know that." Tim grumbled in his deep voice.

"Tim, I love you with all of my heart, and I refuse to ever be separated from you." The determination still rang strong in Emma's voice compelling her love to believe her.

"I can't give you anything." He reminded her almost roughly.

"I know, and you don't have to. All I want is your love." Emma consoled him.

"That isn't enough." Tim practically growled.

"It's enough for me. I couldn't have asked for a better man." His flaws meant nothing more to Emma than that he was human like her.

"I live on the streets." Tim pointed out.

"Life can be difficult." Emma smiled her cat like grin at him as she snuggled close to his body.

"So can you." He grumbled referring to her determination to always stay by his side.

"I can be stubborn and demanding when it comes to love." Emma giggled.

"I love you." He murmured.

"I love you too, Tim." Emma leaned towards him, and kissed him yet again.

Love and life were surely difficult especially for them, but Emma would never give up on Tim.
