Round after round I shot desperately at the oncoming horde, but more of those blood thirsty creatures came lurching down the street. I was out of options, I couldn't fend them off any longer. I slammed the door shut and pushed a dresser in front of it to buy some time. Screeches and moans echoed throughout the empty house, fists slamming against the rigid boards. They would get in any minute, I knew I had only minutes left.
I fell to my knees, dropping my gun at my side, I had no more chances. I used my last to save him. My last hope was that he caught up with Rochelle and Coach, that they all made it out alive.
Wood splintered and groaned under the weight of the horde. I forced myself to stand, facing the door of dissolution. I picked my gun off the floor and took out my last clip, slowly reloading.
The door hinges began to break, falling halfway off the door. The sounds of heavy foot fall reached the house, my heart rate increasing in fear of what was coming. A large body slammed against the house and the walls shook, ready to give way. A loud bellow filled the house and the walls shook once more, the dresser falling forward.
I backed into the leg of an old desk, jabbing it into my knee. I screamed in both pain and frustration. I grabbed the end of the leg and tried pulling it out, but it only caused pain to shoot through my leg. The windows shattered as the infected slammed itself against the house once more. I fell to the floor, my leg twisting with the hunk of wood, leaving my leg completely useless.
I tried desperately to stand again, but my leg forced me back down. Zombies climbed through the windows, clawing and biting at one another to get in. The large infected slammed itself against the house getting more angry with each attempt to bust it down. The door cracked and the rest of the horde was immediately clawing at the remaining wood and making their way in. I shot desperately at the wave of bodies, getting more damage shots than kill shots.
A screech from behind caused me to freeze and I looked behind me as all the blood rushed from my face. A tall dark figure crouched below the crowd and growled at me, claws digging into the floorboards. I aimed the barrel of my gun directly at it's head and pressed the trigger, but the last of my bullets were all gone.
I was surrounded by a horde of infected with no protection and no way out. My mind shattered, the only thought remaining was that of a friend. Tonight might be my last, but at least I knew he was safe and not forced to meet the same fate.
I closed my eyes as a stray tear fell, leaving behind the last feeling I would ever know.
I never got to tell the man I dreamed of every night just how much I loved him.
