A young Isabelle was playing with her brother Digby. "Digby. Can you make me a promise?" Isabelle asked. "Why?" Digby asked. "Because I said. And I'm the younger one of the family. Which younger siblings have rights." Isabelle replied cheekily. "Alright. What's the promise?" He asked. "Promise me you'll always be here with me and that nothing will happen to you." She said, with a now serious look.
"I can't promise that Izzy." Digby replied. "Please..." Isabelle looked at him with baby doll eyes. "Alright." Digby finally gave him. She smiled and licked him happily. They kept on playing. I still can't promise that, Digby thought.
Now...
Isabelle is now sixteen and has a boyfriend named Villager. Digby is now 18 and is going to the local university, trying to get a degree in Textiles. "Weird. Don't you think it's weird that Digby isn't home yet?" She asked. "Maybe he's at the front door, waiting for you to let him in, because he forgot his keys. Go check." Villager replied.
"Alright. I'll check." Isabelle said and ran off to the front of the house.
While she was gone, Villager turned on the TV. It was on the news. He was about to change it, when there was suddenly coverage on a car crash which had just happened. He felt sad, but then heard Digby was in that car. "Oh my god." He said quietly. "ISABELLE!!!"
Isabelle was at the front of the house, looking outside when she heard Villager. She immediatly shut the front door and went running into the living room. She gasped when she saw the coverage of the car crash. "No..." She said tearfully.
At the car crash, Digby was barely holding on. He was in such serious condition, that he had to be rushed to hospital. He thought of his sister and the promise he made her. I don't break promises, he thought. Especially if they have to do with Izzy. He then felt a massive wave of pain which was beyond his endurance. He fainted and his pulse disappeared.
Back at the house, Isabelle and Villager were watching the coverage and Isabelle was crying into Villager's arms.
In the ambulance, the paramedics tried to bring Digby back but were unable to and called it. When this happened, Isabelle collapsed on the floor with grief. Villager hugged her tightly. She thought of the promise Digby made her and how he was unable to keep it. "He promised..." She sobbed.
At The Funeral...
Isabelle was dressed in all black and was even wearing black lipstick. Villager was by her side. During the service, Isabelle thought of her beloved brother and wished he was by her side, along with Villager. And she did actually feel him by her side. She shut her eyes and imagined her, Digby and Villager were all walking together happily.
