A blue hedgehog ran around his room, wildy throwing clothes and other essentials into a red suitcase. His younger brother, a yellow fox, watched on in amusement.

"I told you not to wait until the last minute to pack your things," Tails said, an 'I told you so' look on his face.

"It's not my fault I keep forgetting!" Sonic yelled while trying to close his carry on.

The doorbell rang and Sonic practically threw himself down the stairs to get to the front door, Tails followed with his luggage. He opened his door to Shadow and Rouge, Omega was still in the taxi.

"You ready to go Big Blue?" Rouge said.

"Yeah, I just need to say goodbye to Tails real quick," he said, chuckling at the nickname.

He turned to his brother and said, "Knuckles will be here in an hour, will you be okay?'

"I'll be fine Sonic, c'mon you gotta go."

Sonic laughed and ruffled the fur on his little brother's head. They waved goodbye to each other ass Sonic placed his stuff in the trunk of the taxi.

Tails turned to look at Shadow, "you better take good care of him."

"Already planning on it," Shadow said.

Shadow sat in the passenger seat, he adjusted the rearview mirror to get a good look of the back seats. Omega sat between Sonic and Rouge, who were happily chatting away with each other.

"Hey Shads, how long will it take to get to the airport?" Sonic asked.

"About an hour, and didn't I tell you not to call me that?" Shadow mused.

Sonic just laughed and returned to his conversation with Rouge. They eventually started a three way game of rock paper scissors,a game Omega ended up winning. Sonic crossed his arms and pouted like a little kid, Rouge giggled at his childish behavior.

Sonic dashed out of the taxi the second they arrived at the airport. Omega managed to catch him and bring him back to the group.

"C'mon let me go!" He whined.

"I know you don't like sitting still but we have to stick together," Rouge said.

Shadow smirked and walked past them to open the door. Sonic managed to wriggle his way out of Omega's grip and caught up with Shadow.

"So what's this new weapon of old egghead's anyways?" Sonic asked as Shadow handed over their passports to the lady at the front desk.

"No idea, we have to figure that out ourselves," he said.

They collected their passports and moved on to security. Omega had a hard time with the metal detector considering he was a robot, the rest of the group had to wait while they were manually searched.

"Do you guys want to get something to eat?" Rouge asked. Shadow just nodded, watching Sonic run in front of the rest of the group, eager to be the first one to reach the gate.

"I do not require sustenance but I will accompany you," Omega said.

"Hey Sonic! Are you Hungry?" She called out. Sonic turned around and gave a thumbs up as he continued on running.

Sonic tapped his foot impatiently, the line for food wasn't that long but for Sonic it was taking forever. The airport's restaurant didn't have chili dogs so he had to settle on a hamburger. He felt a little tug on his leg, looking down he saw a little girl nervously fiddling with a necklace of shiny trinkets around her neck. Blue eyes looked up at the blue hero but quickly flew right back down. Sonic crouched to the little crow's level.

"Hey… Is everything alright? Where are your parents?" He asked.

"I dunno…" She mumbled, still refusing to make eye contact.

Sonic nodded and stood back up. He tapped Shadow and Rouge on the shoulder and brought them to the the little girl.

"She can't find her parents," he explained.

"That's terrible!" Rouge gasped.

Shadow crouched down. "What's your name kid?" He asked.

"Ava," she said.

Shadow nodded and stood back up. "We should take her to security," he said.

Sonic picked Ava up as Shadow flagged down a security guard.

"You have a very pretty necklace," Rouge cooed, trying to keep the young girl happy.

"My mama made it for me." She shrugged, "I like shiny things."

"I like shiny things too!" Roge said.

Shadow came back with a security guard, an overweight tabby, who brought them to a guard station. Rouge spoke with security while everyone else sat on a metal bench. Shadow watched as Sonic kept Ava occupied, asking her question about school and what she enjoyed doing, a small smile tugged at his tan lips.

"I like your robot," Ava said, pointing at Omega.

"Would you like to say hi?" Sonic asked, she nodded her head.

Ava got close to Omega's head, she removed a penny from her necklace and placed it in their large metal hand.

"You are very kind, tiny life form," Omega said. Ava giggled and hugged them.

"Ava!" A woman's voice exclaimed.

Heads turned as the little girl ran to her mother. The older woman looked up from her daughter and a mouthed a thank you.

"C'mon, we gotta go," Shadow said.

Sonic waved goodbye before joining the others.

Sonic settled into his window seat while Shadow stored their luggage in the overhead bin, Rouge and Omega sat across the aisle.

You're really good with kids," Shadow said, taking his seat.

Soni shrugged, "I just try to be nice."

"You're hell of a lot better than plenty of parents I've seen," Shadow pointed out.

Sonic burst out laughing and Shadow couldn't help but smile. The usual pre flight announcements came over the speakers, everyone buckled their seatbelts and prepared for take off. Sonic looked out the window as the plane got higher and higher off the ground until they were above the clouds.

This is the first chapter of Take Me Home! Updates might be a little slow but that's just so I can make it a better reading experience than my last story.
