My Parents, By: Ada Kathryn Eames-Goren

They often say you act like your parents in a way or look like them, I do. I have my father's habit of being blunt and my mother's looks, well except for my hair. At five I began home schooling, I joke with my parents and call it squad schooling since I spend my days in the MCS squadroom, helpping there or doing my studies. Now at eight, you can't keep me from sneeking into interrogations. I often get into trouble when my parents go into the viewing room to find me. I get repremanded and sent back to my desk to finish my work. My father is more relaxed then my mother, that is the strange part, he says that fatherhood changed him. My mother always laughs and says it's due to his age. Often at home it becomes Ada this or Ada that. I admit I never clean up my room and rearly do my chores, but I'm a kid I remind them. My mother looks at my father and says she's your kid, a little help would be nice, that's when my father loks at me, my freedom from chores is gone that day. It seems my parents fall more in love by the day, they are always on the couch in each other's arms when they have a chance. The look they give each other, it makes me wonder why I'm an only child. I asked one day and I got the answer I never expected.

"Mom, why am I your only child?" Mom looked and Dad and sighed.

"Come here." She pulled me into lap and they looked at me. "Before you were born, you had a sister. She died before she was born, I gave birth to her, it's called a stillborn birth. After your sister, I had six miscarriages, the babies didn't survive. That's when I had you, that's why you're an only child."

"Oh, what was her name?" Mom was sad, I knew that look.

"Alexandra Frances Eames-Goren." Dad looked at us both, he was sad too.

"Ada look at me." I looked at Dad, he smiled. "We love you and as our only child, we want to protect you, so no more interrogation stunts."

"Atleast intil I'm a cop." I smiled him and he smiled back.

"Not till then." I hugged Dad, I knew he loved my hugs, he said they made him feel better.

"Can you have another child?" I looked at my mother, she shook her head.

"No I can't, I'm past that time." I smiled to let her know it was okay.

"It's okay, you have me." I left the room, allowng my parents to cuddle more. I hear them talking from the stair. I'm not suppose to listen but I'm that type of child.

"Alex you haven't reached menopause yet." Dad was trying to comfort Mom but his voice was sad.

"Bobby we can't have another." Mom was completely sad, her voice dropped.

"We can try, just try."

I moved to look at them, Mom was sad, but she had a small smile. That meant I was possibly going to have a sister or brother, I hope a brother so I can teach him everything about being a cop. A sister would be good too but I really want a brother.

Next Year

Mommy gave me a sister, her name is Sarah Lynne Eames-Goren. She sleeps alot and we can't play together because she doesn't doing anything but sleep and eat. Mom and Dad call her their miracle baby, I just call her Sarah. She's okay I guess but what's really cool about her is Mom and Dad are closer now, they love each other more, their bedroom door is closed, all the time. I guess it helps when Mom's forty-five and has a baby which she hasn't been able to have. Dad says I'm his favorite, Mom tells him they have no favorites. Once she left, he told me I'm his big girl and he loved me as much as he loved his baby girl. My parents are strange, always have been and always will be.
