I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, a harry potter fanfic

An: This is a little one-shot on James's love for Harry. It's based off of "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith.

He looked down at the golden-red crib, watching fascinated by what it held. His ultimate treasure lay there, under a soft hand-sewn blanket. Tiny hands clutched the edges and a corner was hidden in a small mouth, smiling softly, as a quiet sigh filled the room.

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

This was his baby, his Harry. This little boy with raven-black hair, like his daddy's, and shimmering emerald eyes, like his mommy's, had captured so many hearts from his first moment of existence. This little angel was his son, his reason for living.

No one would make him leave, no one could. His son held his heart the moment he opened those shimmering eyes in the delivery room. He was in love the moment his son made eye contact three seconds later, and giggled. No one could tear him from his jewel, for he would die first.

I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
Forever and ever

Forever, that was how long he would love this child. As little Harry murmured and rolled over, he bent down and fixed the blanket so that it covered his son better. His had lingered by the miniscule body, and wavered towards the unruly mess of ebony sprouting out of the head. Brushing away a lock, he smiled softly.

"Dear?" he looked up at his wife, with her crimson locks mussed up from rolling in her sleep. She walked in, and looked down at their creation. She two smiled softly, and then grabbed his hand. She led him out of the room, towards their own. He lay down next to her, pulling her close, and hearing her sigh of comfort. His thoughts strayed back to his son.

Once he was sure that she was asleep, he slipped back to his son's doorway. Standing there, looking at that small perfection asleep. He slowly shut the door, and walked back to his wife, full of the love he felt for his son.
