I stared pensively out of the window, absorbing the night. My eyes trailed over the fragile figure lying on the bed, carefully observing each breath that she emitted with a certain tenderness that I had reserved just for her. My every thought devoted to her, as hers do mine.

I'd waited decades for this moment. There was no denying on my behalf that life chose the most unexpected ones. Never in a million years would I have imagined. A human girl.

There had always been a sliver of hope that she was actually there, with me. If I would have never seen her again, I could latch onto this sliver of hope, and send my regards back to Forks. My greatest comfort was that I could resolve everything. Forever seemed a fair stretch away at this point.

I stroked her cheek gently with the back of my hand. Her cheek seemed to quiver before softening again. I knew that I had once contemplated leaving. Departing. These words had stung my lips, but I didn't take pain as a sign, as I kissed her for what would have been the last time, if she hadn't come to my rescue. She had risked everything for me. It was reckless, I was clearly undeserving, but then again, she loved me.

A/N: So I recently got the new Evermore album, Real Life, and this song definitely stood out. It reminded me of the whole Edward/Bella situation. I wanted to get this song out there one way or another, and here you have it.
