DESTINY ISN'T SO GREAT
A Oneshot About Leafpool
A black figure stalked through the undergrowth. A grey figure and a ginger figure followed it. The black figure lifted its head. It spoke."Come on, you two, we're almost to Leafpool's den! Being a medicine cat will be so cool, don't you think?" it asked.
"Well, you might, but I disagree. Medicine cats stink. Warriors are awesome!" meowed the ginger figure, head still down.
The grey figure spat at them. "You two be quiet, you'll give us away. We don't need your opinions."
I sighed. "HOLLYKIT! JAYKIT! LIONKIT! What are you doing here?" I yowled, loud enough for Squirrelflight, my sister, who was returning from the dawn patrol with Brambleclaw, Cloudtail, and Brackenfur, to hear. I ushered her over to my den with my tail. "They were spying on me," I told her. "Whitepaw's warrior ceremony was supposed to be today, but a rogue attacked last night's sun-down patrol, Spiderleg, Ashfur, Whitepaw, and Dustpelt. She got injured, and Lionkit suggested that Hollykit spy on me to see what herbs I used to treat her. She took her brothers with her. Jaykit made it well."
"Good." Squirrelflight turned to her kits. "Hollykit, if you are interested in what Leafpool is doing, then come into her den. Lionkit, don't give your sister bad ideas. Jaykit, you're blind. You shouldn't be helping Hollykit and Lionkit spy. All of you, go back to the nursery with me!"
I rolled my eyes as my sister led Hollykit, Jaykit, and Lionkit back into the nursery. A black cat walked into my den just moments later.
"Spiderleg," I mewed, "I'm busy treating Whitepaw, so make it snappy."
Spiderleg nodded. "Leafpool...um...I'm here for Rainwhisker...he's...dead."
I blinked in surprise. "Come on, Spiderleg. Bring his body to camp. Why tell me?"
"Not you," Spiderleg spat. "Whitepaw. Rainwhisker told me to tell Whitepaw and Birchpaw after Firestar and Brambleclaw."
I dismissed him with a flick of my tail. Stupid long-legs. Next thing I'd know, Ashfur and Dustpelt would come trotting in saying that Brackenfur or Honeypaw was dead. Cloudtail, who dropped by to see his daughter, was the cat that I chose to keep cats with non-serious injuries out of my den.
As I worked, I thought about two cats: Spottedleaf and Crowfeather. I had loved Crowfeather. We had ran away together. Midnight stopped that. My destiny was to be Leafpool the medicine cat of ThunderClan, not Leafpool the queen, code-breaker. I hardly thought about Crowfeather anymore. My fate was with ThunderClan and herbs, not Crowfeather and kits. Besides, Crowfeather had taken Nightcloud for a mate. Just for the Clan to trust him.
Whitepaw moaned in pain again. Oops. Stupid Crowfeather, stupid Nightcloud, stupid WindClan. Made me forget which herb to use. Spottedleaf was right--I was supposed to be a loyal member of ThunderClan, not Crowfeather's v mate. Destiny calls, Leafpool, ol' she-cat.
I sighed, because I was beginning to realise that destiny isn't so great.
