It was just another lovely; dull day…ugh, and how did Luna hate such days. When she'd awoken, she'd found that the pillar of light in the distance had faded, the gulls were flying outside her window as usual, and the world was safe and sound. With a sigh, she rose from her bed. Everything would be so simple again, she thought. Finally, she could get back to waitressing without worrying about her kid sister…
That is, after she took care of one last thing. Narrowing a brow, she eyed the empty space in the room behind her. "Xelloss," she mumbled, as she went over to her mirror, brushing her hair with her fingers. "Don't you have…something better to do? I'm sure your Master has something planned."
"Oh, of course, Luna, of course! I was just stopping back from taking care of an errand. The Sword of Light doesn't have any use here anymore, afterall—"
"Right. So why come visit me?"
"Oh. Well, now that it's over, I was wondering why you rejected this mission in the first place. You know, a Knight of Cephied would have been perfectly capable, I think—"
Luna chuckled, and turned back to the mazoku. He was perched up in a corner of her room, just levitating there, like it was nothing. "Why?" she began. Xelloss eyed her carefully. "Well…it was that time of the month!"
"Er—really now, Luna—"
"I'm kidding."
But what was the reason? Luna couldn't think of one, at that moment. Was she scared? Certainly—as anyone would be. But too scared? No. There wasn't much that frightened her. With even the famous Lina Inverse as little more than putty in her hands, Luna didn't have much to be afraid of. Was Lina more capable? Possibly… no. Her lips twinged. There was no way she'd admit something like that.
"Then why?" Xelloss raised a brow, and rubbed his chin. He hunched over and crossed his legs, as if sitting on thin air. "Is your job really that important to you? You know, it's never too late to—"
Luna shot him a dirty glare. "I don't think so. But, do you really, really want to know why? Why I didn't?" she looked away, but, from the deepening tone in her voice, and the manner in which her words grew so quiet, Xelloss knew that she was serious. He leaned in closer.
"Xelloss… that, is a secret!"
Note: If anyone remembers this fic, it is, indeed, a mildy-tweaked repost of something from years ago. :) Thanks for the continued support over the years! Read, comment, and review if you'd be so kind!
