Note: I am aware the timeline does not match up to the real story lines. It will jump around a bit. I am just pulling interesting parts of what happened in real life to fill the story. So just go with it ;-) Just relax and enjoy the ride! It's fiction after all. Hope you like it.

Paul, known as Hunter to his friends and fans, was sitting in his locker room thinking over the past few months. How could he have been so selfish? So blind. He wasn't this person everyone thought he was. He was only human and made mistakes. Chyna, his former girlfriend, had been let go from WWF and he blamed himself for the pain he caused her. He wished he could talk to her about all that had happened and say he was sorry. To mend what he missed so much. The friendship they had before he made such a mess of things. He was no longer in love with her but, she was once his friend. He knew he didn't really cheat on her and, hoped she could forgive him. They were between one of their on again/off again breakups when she found Stephanie's love note. They still lived together In Connecticut and Chyna was trying to find her own place in LA. But, it hurt her nonetheless. He took the fall for the whole ordeal even though he knew his ex, Stephanie, was the one who planted the note to break them up.

Stephanie's jealousy was never-ending. She wanted to be with the man on top no matter who it was, to get the fame she always craved. She never loved Hunter as he thought, it was all lies for the greedy woman to get her way. After he went along with Vince's romance story line he never thought he would actually date the bosses daughter. Nor did he think she was as vindictive as he later learned she was. Now he knew who she really was. She had cheated on him not only with Jericho but also many other men backstage. Making him feel like a fool. 'How could I be so stupid.' He thought.

The only reason he stayed is the bond he had with his job, his friends, and with the new DX. He had just brought back one of his best friends, Xpac in recent months and was finally feeling like his life was back on track. DX was getting bigger and he was loving remembering why he was a wrestler, to begin with. To make a name for himself and be the best. Hell...he was "The Game". He was never going to stop what he loved doing for some woman. Wrestling was his life's passion.

Hunter also stayed due to the understanding he got from his boss, Vince McMahon, on what he was going through behind the scenes. Vince was furious at his daughter for her actions. So much so that he made her leave the show for a while. Losing Chyna on the show cost him and the company money and he felt bad for letting her go. He blamed himself for allowing Steph to manipulate everyone including him. He sent Stephanie to work back in the office, at her old job taking phone calls. GIving her some time to reflect on what she was doing to everyone. Her actions caused a huge media firestorm and caused a lot of havoc backstage once the backstage information was released.

Thankfully Hunter was glad she was out of his hair for a while. Truthfully, he hadn't felt anything for Stephanie for some time. He just didn't want to admit he made a mistake or lose his job. Dating the bosses daughter wasn't as good of a career choice as he thought. So he stayed in a loveless relationship. Even though he was humiliated, he was glad to have her annoying voice far away from him so he could refocus on his job. He wondered if he would ever find a woman who would be his soulmate. Someone who wasn't just there because he was lonely on the road or a gold digger wanting fame.

He knew Vince would have been devastated if Hunter left after all they had been through over the years. Hunter was a fighter in and out of the ring. He and Vince had talked after Stephanie and his breakup. Vince saw him as the future of the company and a second son. Linda Vince's wife, also hated what Stephanie had done and encouraged Vince to make Hunter stay. Hunter had the drive, the knowledge, and the charisma to take the company to new levels years after he retired from the ring. Granted Vince was no saint himself. Hunter knew a lot of Stephanie's actions were due to what she learned from her dad. Vince too knew it was him who taught his daughter to be a selfish brat. He always told her, to get to the top at all cost. That's all she wanted. Fame, fortune, and to own the company. She already thought of herself as a princess to the throne and dubbed herself the "Billion Dollar Princess". Not to mention she saw Vince's years of infidelity. Cheating was in her nature. She liked the thrill of random sex partners. She liked being with the guy who had the belt and the power. That belt around his waist meant prestige for her. The reason being by Hunters side, to begin with as a way of manipulating her dad. Hunter went along with it. It kept him on top. Vince often wandered how Shane had turned out so good and Stephanie was ruined.

Hunter laughed at the thought of Stephanie ever being in charge like she wanted, "God help us all if that ever happens." Although he knew better. Vince was smarter than that.

The fans hated what Steph did to Chyna. Ruining her career and now trying to ruin him. It was crazy how the fans would find out everything the stars did in their personal lives. Not that they ever liked Stephs persona on stage anyway. She was the most annoying character on and off screen. Maybe when she was younger there was something but, now she was just a thorn in everyone's side. She thought it was her character they hated. Truthfully she was her character and everyone, even fans, knew that her fake smiles outside the ring were just for show. People saw right through her. Unlike her dad who truly was good for the staff, wrestlers, and fans. Steph was a spoiled, self-centered, brat.

Since the information that Hunter was not responsible for the split between him and Chyna was released he felt some relief. That dark cloud was no longer looming over him. Truthfully he never cheated. He never dated Stephanie until some time after Chyna found the love note Steph planted in his bag. He tried to explain but, Chyna was just too upset to listen. Being mad over the situation, he figured if he was being accused, might as well get something out of it. After all, dating the bosses daughter would come with some perks. Since he and Chyna were not in a good relationship anymore anyway, he didn't see a point in continuing to fight to keep it together. Later he did fall for Steph but, he quickly learned how big f a mistake that was.

He wishes he knew where the media leak came from so he could shake that person's hand. They also were the ones who revealed she was sleeping with other men. Photos were taken of her with two different men on several occasions. Hunter laughed at the reaction she had when her face was all over the tabloid shows. That stupid yell and scrunched up face he saw every time she didn't get her way. "NOOOOOO!" she yelled. He started to laugh at her and she got even madder. He decided to not even argue with her about the cheating. He just walked out the door of his house and told her to leave before he got home. That very next morning he went straight to Vince to ensure his job was secure and to end things with Steph for good.

He remembered Vince's reaction to the news and how many times he tried to apologize for his daughter's actions. Hunter told him he just wanted to keep his job and move on with his life. He told Vince how much the company meant to him. Hunter could put all that aside to do what was best for business. He felt it was finally a way to get his life back. Steph had always threatened to have him fired if he left her. This way he wasn't at fault and was free of her. Vince agreed to put in his contract that no matter who he dated, it would never affect his job and position in the company. As well as personal interaction between him and Stephanie that would obviously be in play. Hunter always a good player of backstage politics turned in in his favor. He knew full well how to make things work to his advantage. Even the bad times. After the "Curtain Call" incident he learned fast how to work the game in his favor in the end. No one knew the game better than him and his friends in the Kliq. All Stephanie's actions did was solidify Vinces respect for Hunter and gave him more pull behind the scenes.

He knew he had been selfish on his rise to the top. Stephanie, the woman he thought was his future, was nothing more than the lying bitch Chyna always said she was. She even pulled the pregnancy card that Vince played out on stage. Somehow Vince always seemed to pull real life into the ring. He risked everything by going along with Stephanie's plans to rule the wrestling business. He now knew as long as he had the gold around his waist, that was all she cared about. It was only when the gold was not strapped over his shoulder that she would go seeking out the next partner for her bed. That belt meant the world to him but, it sure wasn't the only thing in his life. He wanted to be loved. He wasn't one of the guys who was sleeping around, partying and getting into trouble. He was the guy working his ass off for all he had achieved.

He finally was feeling it was time to move forward. Lacing up his boots he was ready to go out and get back to what meant the most his job and the belt. It was time to shake off women and drama and get back to what he was there for. The WWF/WCW Monday Night Wars were in full effect and with X-Pac back by his side. Hunter was ready to raise so hell and shake things up. Hunter missed his friends Shawn Micheals, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon, and even his ex Chyna. Billy Gunn and Rodd Dogg aka Brian had already been recruited to DX. With Steph gone he felt it was almost like the old days with DX. The Kliq crew were like family and always will be. But, DX was to DX and was making waves in the industry and. Before he stepped out to the ring he knew he had to make amends with his old friend Chyna. He owed her that. They had a past and he needed closure. He just didn't know how.

He had a match that night against Chirs Jericho. Maybe it would clear his head after he had a chance to give the self-proclaimed "king of the world" a few knocks around the ring. He didn't always get along with Chris but, he didn't hate him for cheating with Steph. Heck, he was glad Chris saved him the misery of almost marrying that witch. Just one of the guys who Hunter now knew was in her bed. Hunter shivered at the thought of how many men she had been with and then back to him in his bed. 'I should have trusted the stories about Macho Man and her. Maybe I would have saved myself some misery,' he thought.

Anna Gold was growing sick of what she was enduring at WCW. That creep Eric Bischof was always on her back, pressuring her about not revealing who she was. "Dang that stupid metal mask." Although she felt pretty and exotic in the gold costumes, it was depressing to not being able to show her face to fans or even anyone backstage. The rumors that she was disfigured under that mask hurt her heart. People speculated she was either ugly or had some accident that messed up her face. No one knew it was just Eric's sick idea of keeping her beauty from the crowds. The gold was the only thing that represented who she was under the mask. So he could enjoy her beauty only for himself and a small handful of people who knew what she looked like.

Eric flirted and hit on her pretty often and, she was mortified at the thought of that creepy man ever touching her. She was a modest shy girl who didn't sleep around. He saw her as some sort of trophy. At times she felt like she was living a double life. She did everything she could to stay far from him. At home, she was a nobody and lived a pretty modest life. No one knew who she was on stage. The other side of her a dominant force in the ring. The girl behind the mask. She knew the mask was ironically a symbol for the mask she always put up in real life that hid who she truly was. The mask that started as her escape from reality but grew to be her prison. She was on top of the women's division at WCW but, wanted more.

Fans thought she was the WCW version of Chyna. Which she was proud of. She loved Chyna and saw her as the person who changed women's wrestling. She met her once at a fan autograph signing and Chyna paid special attention to her crying niece. The event planners stopped signings and the little girl was only one child left who had not got an autograph. Chyna pulled Anna's niece on stage and encouraged the promoter to finish up with the remaining few people in line. (FYI: Side note from the author. This story about Chyna and the little girl was true. It happened to me and my niece at an auto show.)

That memory showed her Chyna was a kind person in real life. That's what she wanted for her career. To be a force in the ring and kind to her fans. She never wanted to be the girly barbie doll type. She wanted to be a real woman with strength. She certainly wasn't as strong and near as big physically as her female idol but, she was not afraid to get in the ring toe-to-toe with a man if necessary. She trained with men in the beginning. It made her feel empowered. So the comparison of her to Chyna always made her smile.

Being at WCW was not at all what she thought. Anna turned down WWF due to a crush she had on a man there who was already in a relationship. She always wanted to be in the WWF since the days of Cindy Lauper and Hulkamania. She watched as a child with her father and thought one day she would be in that ring. She knew she would never be able to be that close to her crush and not feel compelled to want to be with him. So she turned down the WWF offer. She thought it was crazy of her to fall for a guy she didn't even know yet. Anna would just admire from afar and listen to stories from others who knew him. 'Yes that would be enough, or is it?', she thought.

She was more lonely than she had been in years. The girls backstage at WCW thought she was a freak. They never talked to Anna. But, often talked bad about her. Even when she was standing in the room. No one knew what she looked like and she was told by Eric to stay away from everyone to keep their secret safe. At first, Eric's idea was to protect her from her past and keep her safe. But, it turned that Eric was no better for her and, the mask became like a memory of what pain she had inside. Although she loved some of the beauty and craftsmanship of the mask. It was a hard reminder of what was going on in her real life.

There were only a few who knew what she looked like and who she really was. Big Poppa Pump aka Scott Steiner, being one of those people. Since he found out what she looked like he was always trying to get with her. Not that he liked her, he just didn't like she always shot him down. Sure, since he found out she liked bodybuilder types she must be head over heels for him too. Right?! She laughed at the thought. He was not her type. He was just too arrogant and not very nice to people. He could be kind to her when he wanted to be. But, she just didn't find interest there. To top it off he found out about her crush and teased her often about it. He was one of the few people who knew who she really was and honestly she wish he didn't. He tormented and teased her and frankly, she didn't like him one bit.

The only others who knew who she was behind the mask were the guys from NWO. She would never forget the night Kevin Nash and Razor (Scott Hall) saved her life. The reason for the mask was to shield her from a bad break up. It was a way to keep her stalker from knowing where she was. Eric's idea had worked for a while but, a slip from an old friend at home let her ex know where she was. Once her ex knew, he jumped on the chance to get the girl in gold.
