Another really short oneshot. I hope you guys like it!
I don't own RENT.
Mark woke up on Thanksgiving morning to find that he was the only one in bed. Confused, because Maureen usually slept until noon, Mark got up, put on his glasses, and went into the living-room-kitchen area.
"'Morning, Pookie," Maureen said as he walked in.
"What are doing up so early?" Mark asked his girlfriend.
"Oh, I was thinking about something," Maureen answered. Mark knew that if Maureen was 'thinking' about something, that something was never good.
"Where's Roger?" he asked.
"Still sleeping," Maureen said. "Do you want some cereal?" she asked as Mark came over to sit down next to her.
"Uh, yeah, sure," Mark replied, confused. Maureen didn't usually get him anything. Mark was usually the one getting her things. After Maureen had given Mark a bowl of cereal, she sat down across from Mark and grabbed his hand.
"So Pookie. Pookie Pookie Pookie," Maureen said to Mark as she gave him a small smile. "Today's Thanksgiving."
"Um, yeah, I know," Mark answered.
"So I was thinking about what I was thankful for," Maureen continued. "And I decided that I was thankful for three things. One of them, of course, is having such a loving, understanding boyfriend. The other two are ice cream, and being able to choose what I want."
Mark stared at Maureen blankly. Where was she headed with all of this?
Maureen went on. "But then I thought that those last two probably go together, because you can always choose whatever kind of ice cream you want."
Mark continued to be as completely confused as he had been before.
"Now Pookie, you know that my favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate. And yours is strawberry. Right?" Maureen said with a smile.
Mark nodded.
"But you also know that I don't always eat chocolate ice cream. Sometimes I eat strawberry, but not as much as chocolate."
Mark wondered if this had anything to do with the fact that they hadn't been able to afford ice cream in almost a year.
"But Marky, I've been realizing that I like strawberry ice cream better than chocolate ice cream. Especially once particular brand of strawberry ice cream. So, would you say that I should just go on and eat that brand of strawberry?'
"Well, yeah," Mark answered. "I mean, it's just ice cream."
"Pookie, it's not 'just ice cream'. It's a very important to me," Maureen told Mark with a slightly offended look on her face.
"Right Maureen. It's very important," Mark said, just as confused as ever.
"But you definitely think that I should eat strawberry?" Maureen continued. "If it's going to make me happy?"
"Um, yes?" said Mark, with a slight question.
"Sweetie, I need to know that you completely agree with me. Should I eat strawberry? Especially this one brand that I like?"
"Yes," Mark answered, trying his best to sound firm, and like he knew why this was so important.
"Thank you so, so much Pookie!" Maureen squealed as she got up to kiss him on the cheek. "And thanks for taking this so well. I knew that you'd understand."
"Uh, yeah, of course I understand," Mark said.
"So I'll be back later to pick up my stuff," Maureen said as she put on her coat. "I have to go tell Joanne. I mean that strawberry brand I love so much."
"Ok," Mark replied as he waved her good-bye. "See you later." Still completely puzzled about what had just happened, Mark began to eat his cereal. Just then, Roger came out of his bedroom with a funny smile on his face.
"Dude," Roger said to his friend. "You just got dumped. For another girl."
End. Reviews are like any flavor of ice cream. Always appreciated!
