"Hinata-chan?" Hinata snapped out of her stupor and turned to the blond man standing next to her. His azure eyes sparkled in the pale, moonlight. "Are you alright, honey?"

"Yeah," Hinata blinked repeatedly, looking down at the platinum ring, with a 15-karat princess-cut diamond, that he held in his shaking hands. "No, I'm fine… Its just… really?"

There was a moment of silence in the Konoha forest before Naruto broke out into a laugh.

"What do you mean?" he asked between chuckles. "Hina-chan, I love you!"

...

"What?!" Hinata awoke suddenly, she sat up and pulled her knees to her chest and hugged herself. It had been 2 months since Naruto proposed to her, 1 month since… since… It was 2 months since the proposal, and 2.5 weeks till their wedding. Ever since she came home early that day, the memory of his proposal, their dates, and their childhood, mocked her. Whenever she closed her eyes, whenever she went to sleep, there they were. The lies.

She looked around the dark room, then, at the empty space in the bed next to her. He would say he was working late, balancing books, but she knew.

She knew and it disgusted her. She wished it never happened, wished she didn't know, but, it was like her best friend said,

"—If wishes were horses, beggars would ride…"

And everything must happen for a reason, right?

Right?
