Her cell phone rang as she twirled in her chair waiting patiently for news on her best friend. "Spence?" She asked in a hurry not bothering to check the caller ID.
"I'll put him on in a second," Alvez replied with a smile, "I was just letting you know that we've taken off so we'll be back soon."
"Thank God," JJ mumbled, "is he okay?"
Alvez nodded his head, "yeah, he's a little shaken but the drugs are pretty much cleared from his system so he's back to reality but he's scared." His eyes turned to face the young agent who lay on the couch.
"I know," JJ whispered, "can I talk to him?" she pleaded, she needed to hear his voice to know if he was really okay.
"Of course," there was a shuffle on the line before JJ heard his voice, "Jen?" It was raspy and dry like he needed a drink.
JJ almost couldn't control the tears she let one slip, "Spence! How are you? Do you need anything? I just went by the place with the boys and checked on your mom as well as picked up a change of clothes for you-" JJ was never one to ramble on but she just couldn't help herself!
"Thank you," he cut her off, his words so soft and delicate nearly broken it made the hairs on her neck stand up.
"What's wrong?"
Reid picked at the cuff on his shirt shying away from his team members on the plane, "I'm scared. I am so scared I did something wrong. I'm scared my addiction will progress, and I'm scared I'm going to lose my job. How can I help my mom?" A sob hid in the back of his throat.
JJ didn't miss a beat, "your burdens are now my burdens understand me? You will get past this moment in time, you will not get addicted again I will drive you to your movie club if I have to. I will sign the nurse's checks, and I will make sure your job is waiting for you when you get back. I love you too much to lose you, Spencer Reid."
"I love you too JJ, so how were the boys with my mom? Did she read to them?" He diverted the conversation, his best friend didn't need to see him so weak.
JJ laughed the best she could knowing he was done talking about it, "six books and then showed them her scrapbook. You wanted to be a tightrope walker?"
