A Scent Of Friendship By HPFangirl71

The stench of dozens of Dungbombs filled the tiny room. This was very obviously someone's idea of a cruel prank on a former Death Eaters son. The air was filled with smoke that stung at Scorpius' eyes and throat. He felt himself panic when the door wouldn't open. He'd forgotten his wand and was helpless to escape the acrid smell of the smoke. As his anxiety grew, so did his inability to catch his breath. He needed to get away… but how?

As the panic escalated, he suddenly saw an opening in the far wall. Someone was coming towards him. He couldn't make out a face under the red and gold scarf which covered it. He only recognized the bright red hair as a hand reached out to him. A Weasley helping a Malfoy… it was unheard of!

" Don't be stubborn. Take my hand and I'll help you out."

With a scowl, Scorpius grabbed the offered hand, allowing himself to be pulled across the room and on through the mysterious opening. The small tunnel like opening came out into an abandoned classroom just outside the Slytherin commons. He leaned against the stone wall as the fresh air came rushing in at him.

"Just breathe slowly… you'll feel better shortly." was whispered into his ear.

He looked up and his blue-grey eyes met with two deep green orbs. His rescuer was none other than the youngest of the Potter brats, Lily.

."Are you okay?"

"Why would you care Potter!?"

Scorpius didn't mean to be rude but he was embarrassed at being rescued by a mere girl.

"Well, excuse me for trying to help! I should've known a Slytherin would be too proud to say thank-you!"

She turned to walk away and he found himself crying out for her to stop. She turned around to him, a genuine smile on her face.

"I'm sorry and thank you." he whispered

"Friends…?"

"Yeah, definitely friends."

Together they walked out, each returning to their own house dorms… but each returning, knowing they had made a true friend.
