Something That Wasn't There Before...

Chapter One,

Prologue

"Are you sure you want to do this Ms. Granger?" Asked an old man with a long white beard and serious blue eyes.

"Yes," Answered a young witch with fluffy, wavy auburn hair and deep chocolate eyes.

"Very well." The man answered folding his hands in front of him and letting them rest against his desk as he sighed.

"Thank you Professor Dumbledore." She answered putting on a bright, but fake smile.

"No," He protested in a serious tone, "Ms. Granger, you are the one who is doing us a favor." Dumbledore finished giving her a small appreciative smile.

"Not really, but thank you." She responded softly as she looked down at the light maroon carpet below her.

"Now, lets get down to business, shale we?" Dumbledore asked as he stood up and looked at the assortment of witches and wizards around him.

The witches and wizards scattered around the room on various cushions and chairs nodded their heads slowly. They each had the same look on their faces, grief, fear, and admiration for the young witch standing near the head masters desk. At least, all but one wizard did.

"Headmaster, may I please talk to Ms. Granger in the hall before we begin?" Asked an elderly witch with her brunet hair tided in a tight bun and her face serious.

"Of course Minerva." Dumbledore responded knowingly.

Hermonie glanced at her professor curiously unsure of what to expect. She watched as she made her way toward her and saw the sad look in her eyes. She had never seen her professor look sad, sympathetic yes, but not sad. When McGonagall had crossed the room to Hermonie she simply nodded her head in the direction of the door. Hermonie turned around and followed McGonagall of the office closing the door behind her and muttering a silencing charm. She put her slim wand back in her black Hogwarts robes and turned to face her teacher who had a solemn look on her face.

"Hermonie, before you do this, there is something you should know." Professor McGonagall started awkwardly not meeting Hermonie's eyes.

"What is it professor?" Hermonie asked quietly as she wondered what could make her esteemed professor so nervous.

"'Tis a long story, please sit down child." Professor McGonagall told her in a tone that made her sound tired.

"Professor, please, just tell me." Hermonie asked softly as she sat opposite to her teach on a red chair in the hallway.

"When He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was in power he killed many people and he wanted to kill even more. He wiped out entire families, but there was one he didn't manage to kill, not completely..." Professor McGonagall started looking at her lap with a sorrowful expression.

Hermonie, who was busy trying to figure out what was going on, didn't feel the line of light that traced her forehead just then, but some one else did, some one who had been waiting for the proof that they had just seen...
