It has never been and never will be a compromise to write this. I convinced myself that the right time to do so would eventually arrive. Writing is not a responsibility, is a choice.
It seems clear now that there more people addressing this particular artistic conflict. FanFiction has been able to endure many attacks and explain its own purpose to those who believe it to be a lack of creativity.
From the creation of an author the ambition and admiration is born from the reader. We all well know the drop of our own tears, the laughter and the pity. We, as a curious being, strive to comprehend the cause of this burst of emotions.
We take tool in hand and begin experimenting with scenarios; changes in the encounters dwelled in the story and begin to speculate the outcomes of incredibly different stories. All involving that one character. one able to cause so much within his/her world.
That's what drives the human mind: Seeking comprehension. The artifacts to achieve this goal are varied, but they all share the same origin.
The author created a world of impossibility, of lies and confusion. It is a futile task for every reader in existence to fully comprehend a literary work. Interpretations come, the error may present itself in the sigh of ignorance, but the author's mind is and will always be a mystery.
We find redundancy in the attempts of these mostly young authors to create a similar style, essence and profundity from what they have read and watched.
Few know the tragic truth of creativity. Nothing is new. All of the stories have already been created. It all seems to be a melancholic and last breath of humanity to prevail expression through the written word. Humanity's evolution bases itself in improvement.
Nevertheless literature has also taught us of the duality of the spirit. Scenarios may be already written, but the ever living soul of the new writer prevails with every rise of the Sun.
Day and night repeat themselves, but the difference lies in the purpose we give ourselves. The task, never equal, to find more and more stories, new characters, new ways to express is a never-ending story itself. We are all writing it.
The essence of every new story is the unique author behind it, bestowing life, purpose, philosophy and beauty into his/her literary work.
No one can write Florentino Ariza, no one can convey Alice's curiosity, no one can bring Molina and Valentin together. FanFiction has always been a redundant term. It is not plagiarism, it is not incapability to create unique characters. It has always been creation. Your Shinji Ikari is not the same Shinji we know from Annon's work. Marvin's life ended with Adam's ending words. But the importance they hold in our hearts inspires new characters based on them. Similar but never identical styles to narrate a story.
Getting to know a character by writing it yourself brings on the hope for uniqueness.
I'm disappointed by the words of those who seek to end these experimentations. For these experimentations are the base of new literature.
Let's conclude with sex. In literature of course.
The desire to unite two destined entities is a heavy burden. So is the attempt to formulate the passion felt in the unity of the body, mind and soul.
Such a beautiful and complex act, to have it written is a perpetually challenging project many seem to try to accomplish.
It is also realism, to convey lust and sexual attraction is to reflect one of humanity's basic needs.
Of course there is bad literature, but let's not state authors nor works. Let's focus in giving the author an opportunity to advance by giving ACTUAL criticism.
And to those who seek conservation and rule's enforcement. With every word we write, with every breath we take we break rules.
It's by this principle literature lives on.
Pardon my English.
