My first adventure into this fandom. This is set just after Solitudes in season one. I haven't watched anymore yet so I apologise for those of you who have if this is ridiculous considering event that happen in like season 8 or whatever :-) I am currently in favour of Jack and Sam as a couple so you can probably guess where this is going :-)

Italics are the characters thoughts, not sure it works properly but I may re-write it later if I think of a better way to do it.

I don't own anything and reviews are always lovely, constructive critism also always helpful :-)

Solitudes – later...

So cold

When Captain Jack O'Neill opened his eyes to find them assaulted by the bright light of the infirmary he couldn't quite believe it. In fact, apart from his current location he was both relieved and amazed he was still alive. His determination that they were going to get out alive was based more on keeping their spirits up, that any evidence based belief that they actually would.

They. Sam.

His mind suddenly raced, where was she he wondered? Had she made it? He remembered finally persuading her to go, to climb to the surface. Had she made it out alive? Had she fallen, or perished against the elements? Or, on a happy note perhaps her ascent to the outside was the reason for his current location? Pulling himself into a sitting position, there wasn't a single part of his body that didn't ache, his head felt like a fish tank that had just been knocked, and he wasn't entirely sure he could process the sound information that his ears appeared to be collecting, it was just noise.

"Welcome back, Captain." The cheerful tones of Janet rang out over the background noise. Taking care to turn his slowly in their directions Jack focused his eyes on the doctor who was now standing my his bedside.

"Hmm." he grunted, resting his head against the wall, how heavy his head felt, how much of a struggle it was to keep his eyes open, perhaps sleeping would be a better idea.

Her.

Instantly alert again, and in search of answers, he focused on the doctors face to ensure he had her attention. "Sam?" he croaked, it was like he was learning to speak all over again, either that of he'd drunk way more beer than he should have.

"She's fine." Janet assured him, both hands still clutched around her clipboard. "I'll let her know you're conscious again, but you should really get some rest, let the anaesthetic wear.."

Janets soft bedside manner was interrupted by a loud bag as the doors to the infirmary came crashing open and Captain Samantha Carter came rushing though, "Jack! Oh thank god." she said dashing towards his bedside.

Janet looked at her and opened her mouth to protest against the manner at which her friend had just arrived in the ward, but decided against it as Sam came to an abrupt halt beside her.

"sorry" Sam said quietly pulling together her professional mask just in time.

Janet smiled, the look of relief on her friends face was unmissable, and she could swear that was a smile she could see on Jack's. Reaching out gently with her right arm to touch Sam's she took a step past her, "I'll leave you two in peace, he's going to be fine, just remember he needs some rest and he's still got quite a lot of anaesthetic to wear off." Wrapping her arm protectively back around her clipboard, head slightly down she hurried out of the ward closing the door quietly as she left. She took once last glance before pulling the door to, Sam was perched on the side of Jack's bed, her hand placed in his.
