Loved Torchwood for years but never bothered to write fanfiction. Until now. Any comments will be loved and really appreciated!

A gentle breeze rustled a few of the dead, brown leaves around Jack Harkness' feet as he strolled through the woodland. Like snowflakes wiping out the moon, brown leaves fell. Jack heard the crunch as he stood on those that had fallen. He observed the bare trees around him, so colourless and devoid of life.

He reached his destination on the edge of the woodland. A graveyard, laying under a blanket of brown leaves. Jack headed for just one grave, inconspicuous amongst the dozens of others. The leaves were swept off, and a single rose left in their place. Moments later a tear or two joined it, right above the words inscribed on the stone.

Ianto Jones

Always in our hearts

Forever in our thoughts

The trees might have lost their leaves, like Jack had lost his team, his family, his lover. But come spring the leaves on the tree would grow again and the woodland would once again be full of colour and life.

It may take Jack a while longer to be happy again and once more filled with life, but he would. Torchwood would be rebuilt again, its colour and life returning. Not all the leaves had fallen, Gwen Cooper remained. He would mourn the loss of his team, the ones who had fallen. But they remained in Jack's memories forever.

Utterly timeless, never falling from the tree that was Jack's heart.
