This sort of came to me when I was trying to think of a plot for another story and listening to sad music. I really like how it turned out. Please review so I can see if I'm the only one!
Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters, Tamora Pierce does.

I am cold, but that doesn't matter.
I don't care. I don't care about anything.
I look at the letter lying on the snowy ground beside me.
With my mother's perfect handwriting, despite the many splotches that dot it.
I feel tears prickling at my eyes, and shut them tight.
I cannot take long, slow breaths, no matter how hard I try.
I am letting tears out, I know I am.
Why am I so scared of crying?
I try to picture the calm lake that is me deep inside,
but that lake is not calm.
Ferocious waves tare at its surface,
and dark clouds mar its sky.
"Kel? Kel?"
I look up at the man standing in the entrance of the courtyard.
"Kel! Mithros are you ok? What's wrong?"
In an instant he is on his knees beside me, a hand on my shoulder.
I can't speak or even look at him. I just shake my head.
His breath makes mist in the air.
"Kel– Oh Kel I am so sorry." He says as he lays the down letter.
He puts his arms around me and holds me close.
I cannot hold it in any more.
I burry my head in his shoulder and cry.
"Shhhhh." He murmurs as I sob into his shirt.
"Shhh. Everything will be ok."
And in that moment, as he rocks us back and forth slightly and strokes my hair,
I know that everything will be.
I realize that in the circle of Dom's arms,
I feel wholly and completely safe.
There is – was only one other man for whom I have ever felt that way,
my father.

So hope you liked it! Just for clairity, Kel's dad died. That was why she was so distressed. review...review...
