Lifehouse - Somebody Else's Song

~~~Tom's POV~~~
"I" was in "my" room, listening to Lifehouse and supposedly doing my homework. Actually, my Yeerk, Essive 1-9-7, had taken a liking to Lifehouse in a previous host body, and they really weren't all that bad. So, we had both taken a liking to Lifehouse. It was as close to a truce as it got. I still hated him, but he gave me some choice, and wasn't nearly as horrible as Temrash, so we had a sort of truce. As Essive was finishing an English essay, the 4th song on the CD came on, "Somebody Else's Song."
"Can't change this feeling
I'm way out of touch"
Whoa. Deep. That was exactly like me. I didn't even know what the essay was on.
"Can't change this meaning
It means too much
Never been this lonely"
Yeah. I hadn't actually talked to Jake, my parents, or any of my friends in years
"Never felt so good"
But I haven't had to do my homework in ages, either.
"Can't be the only one
Misunderstood"
Yes. I couldn't be the only hidden controller, the only one misunderstood, not really him/herself.
" I remind myself of somebody else
Feeling like I'm chasing like i'm
Facing myself alone
I've got somebody elses thoughts in my head
I want some of my own

Yes. Somebody else's thoughts were in my head- Essive's.
"Can you see me up here
Would you bring me back down?"
Does anybody know I'm a controller? Will anyone rescue me, free me, bring me back to reality?
"Cause I've been living to see my fears
As they fall to the ground"
Essive! Please change the music? It's freaking me out. They might as well call it "Controller's Song"
But still the music played. I tried to tune it out, then listened in stony silence.
"I remind myself of somebody else
Feeling like I'm chasing like
I'm facing myself alone
I've got somebody elses thoughts in my head
I want some of my own

I want some of my own"
"Am I hiding behind my doubts
Are they hiding behind me"
Will anyone free me?
"Closer to finding out
It doesn't mean anything"
Does being a controller mean anything? Does it mean I did something especially bad to deserve this living hell? Was I supposed to learn some profound lesson from this? Was I supposed to have some revelation, some qualm? I was so wrapped up I nearly missed the last line.
