This Is the first chapter in a short series starting at the end and working back to the beginning. This is the only one that will be a song fic. though. The song is My Body by Young the Giant.

The End of The Beginning

Every sensible fiber in his being was screaming at him to stop, to pull away. But he just couldn't, instead he kept leaning forward, gazing into those beautiful emerald eyes.

They were so close now. The distance between them was closing ever so slowly. His callused and battle-worn hands cupped her face gently and she wrapped her arms around his waist.

She could see through his darkly tinted shades and saw his eyes for the first time. She couldn't quite make out the color, but she realized the reason he always wore the glasses. His eyes said what he did not.

Stop, the train is ridin' down to the station where I lived

He hated that someone could make him feel so vulnerable. This was never supposed to happen. He'd had feelings for her for years that were more than friendship, but as much as he wanted to pursue those feelings, he knew it could never work. Because if he had a taste of perfection once, he would only want more. And that was dangerous, he needed to be completely focused to do his job or someone could get hurt or worse.

Against all reason he leaned in closer and kissed her. He was doomed now, but he couldn't help thinking that being doomed was better than he could have ever imagined.

Then all thought left his mind as she deepened the kiss.

They pulled away and opened their eyes. She smiled up at him and buried her face in his chest. He settled his chin on the top of her head.

"I love you." He whispered in such a quiet voice that she half thought she imagined it.

She drew back and reached for his shades. She paused before removing them, asking for permission. He gave her a slight nod and she slid them off and placed them on the desk beside her.

She turned back to him. He had a small, content smile that shown is his rich brown eyes.

He had never let anyone take off his shades before. Somehow it felt freeing. Her arms wrapped around him once again and she nuzzled his neck and he held her tighter.

"I love you too." She replied.

There would be a lot of sneaking around and private meetings but he knew that they could make it work.
