"Don't forget."
The war was over. Everybody went home.
"Don't forget."
Only a princess was left staring at an ocean.
The water rose and fell. The blue was more of a grey.
The war has been won, but the war has been lost. What is victory? Does victory mean defeating the bad guy?
"Don't forget."
These words kept repeating themselves in Lissa's head. His final moments couldn't leave her.
"May we meet again in a better place."
What is victory? What is loss? Does anybody care? She is nothing. She felt nothing.
"We should probably watch out, lest Owain gets as crazy as he was in the future."
"But I really like him that way!"
"Well, to be honest, I do too."
Memories of the past can be haunting. They can offer comfort or they can force grief. Maybe it's better just to forget. And never forgive.
They had a happy family. A master in the arts of tactics and his daughter who was the same way. The swordmaster with the fell hand. And she? She was nothing. Worthless. Undeserving of this family. And fate agreed.
Undeserving. Worthless. She was all that and yet he accepted her. His proposal was weak, but she loved him. She pranked him, but she loved him. Because she loved him.
What's love? A curse. Bait to lure you in and destroy you. Rip your heart out. Crush it and leave it to rot. There used to be feelings inside Lissa, a full rainbow of them. Now there's a black hole where her heart used to be. Everybody abandonded her. Everybody deserted her. Nobody loves her anymore. Nobody.
"Don't forget."
She won't forget. But she won't forgive. What is there to forgive? He left her alone.
Lissa wiped her sleeve across her eyes. Sadness is beautiful. Loneliness is tragical. Only half of that quote is correct. Sadness is not beautiful. Sadness is not tragical. Sadness is useless. Why did Naga even implant those feelings? Humans were just meant to live, nothing more, nothing less.
Chrom left him to die. There was a chance he could have survived. Who cares about the dragon? She'd have him.
Selfish. She's selfish. That's true.
Lissa put her hand into the water, feeling the liquid sensation. She lifted her hand and the water flowed away, back into the ocean.
That's what life is. So easily destroyed. And the earth is just waiting to reclaim the body.
There was no body. He erased himself from existence. Why does she remember then? Is it the bonds that bind? He used to say that a lot. Fate is something we make ourselves. There is no destiny.
Yet he was destined to die.
Destiny and fate agreed. She didn't deserve happiness.
She didn't deserve anything at all.
The things she was given was to make her soar. Just so she can fall deeper.
"Lissa?"
It was Chrom. The one man who had the chance to save him.
"Are you alright?"
He dares. An exalt can do anything. An exalt doesn't care about trivial matters such as the loss of a friend.
"Lissa, I'm always here for you."
Lissa turned around with tears in her eyes. She tried to speak. She tried to say it's okay. But her throat was clogged up.
"Lissa?"
"You should have killed Grima!"
Forget and forgive. She'll do neither.
