They promised to stay together forever, didn't they? It was a promise. An oath between friends. They would stay until the end.

But what end? This was not how it was supposed to go. This was not how it was supposed to end. The end was supposed to be their mission's end. Not ... this.

It was his fault.

They wanted to save a world. They wanted to make a better world. But now all Lasl-...Inigo wants is to have her back. He just doesn't want her away. But he knows that death is the end. He experienced it before. His mother's plea. Be happy, she said in her final moments. He found happiness. In the most unlikely place.

Inigo smiled slightly. The promise between him and Severa was not what you'd expect. She basically proposed to him. What may wound a man's pride filled him with joy. He was happy to be proposed to by the ice queen.

Severa. Severa. Severa. Severa, not Selena. While both names shout out beauty, her original name Severa is the one calling out to him. Severa. And he's Inigo. And ...

Inigo looked around. He was in the house he, Owain and Severa shared in Nohr. Owain was nowhere to be seen. Inigo rose and went outside.

Xander offered the trio a place in the castle, but they refused. Actually, it was Severa who refused. She loved the sea and that's why they had Xander buy this house. Even though he and Owain would have loved to stay in a castle, the trio is ... was inseparable and they did everything together. Which meant when scary Severa wanted something, they had to follow her lead.

"Sniff"

Inigo looked at the shore. Owain was there, sniffing.

"Odin?",Inigo called out.

"Get away from me. Please."

"It wasn't your fault. It was mine", admitted Inigo reluctantly.

Severa's death was unexpected and it was his fault.

"What, is it your tome hand that twitches now?"

It was just meant to be a light jab at Owain's eccentricity in the middle of battle. Inigo didn't know he had a bad day. He missed home just as much as the others and during this night Owain had digged through his bag to find a picture album. It has been burned by someone accidently. Owain tried to put up a brave face, but Inigo's joking made him mad.

He punched him, simple as that. The following result was that Inigo's teleportation crystal, the only way to bring him home dropped and fell to the ground. Severa went to grab it, but ...

"Damn right it was your fault!", shouted Owain.

"And it was my fault! It was Grima's fault! It was Xander's fault! It was Severa's fault!"

Owain collapsed.

Inigo had never seen his best friend in such agony. He went to comfort him, but his hand got swatted away.

"Don't touch me!"

Inigo backed away.

"Look, Odi-"

"Owain. My name is Owain, not Odin. Odin is a lie. He never existed."

Inigo eyes started to tear and he wiped them off. "My name is Inigo."

"You stole her again."

"Huh?"

"You stole her away from me again."

Owain used to scowl from time to time. Inigo thought it was just an act to get into the dark mage role. Now it made sense.

"You loved her",said Inigo.

"I was there. You and her 'You and I will always be together forever'",said Owain, his voice cracking.

"She fell for your stupid charms! She was my best friend!"

Inigo didn't know how to respond, so he retreated back into the house. Owain didn't come back that night. Their friendship also did never come back. So much for forever together.

After the war against Hoshido ended, Inigo marked a gravestone for Severa. The coffin was empty for there was no body to be found. Inigo let Owain choose the epitath.

"She was never meant to be mine",muttered Owain after carving and walked away, never looking back.
