Breaking Point
Authors Note: I was really amazed by the rage in Tommy in "Unfinished Business" that I decided he needed his own fic. I just really wanted to get at what was going on his mind that caused the big brouhaha with Oliver where he quit from Verdant. 8Belles.
He paced the living room like a furious tiger. Brutally, he kicked the couch with his foot and threw pillows around the floor narrowly missing lamps and framed pictures. The rage in him was like a blazing welding torch that was quickly fusing the holes of his broken heart.
Of course, the Prodigal Son returned! Oliver was found and Tommy's amazement matched everyone's. His relief, the joy that he felt when he heard the news that his best friend was alive was like a magnificent gift but it was short lived.
Tommy quickly realized though that Oliver was not the man he had been five years ago, which he accepted. Surviving by the wits was a skill that Tommy wasn't sure Oliver had, must have been grueling. He gave him plenty of space to acclimate, he threw a party, and he even apologized for dating Laurel! Didn't he give Oliver the truth?
Feeling some control coming over himself, Tommy poured himself a healthy glass of bourbon in a cut crystal highball glass. Taking a deep sip, he walked towards the window of their apartment, eerily calm from his temper tantrum of a moment ago. The killing, he wondered to himself. When was that going to be brought to his attention? Oh yes, NEVER, he remembered that night after his father was safe and Oliver bared his intentions to never to divulge his secret to his best friend.
I am tired of secrets, he said to himself, and did Oliver ever get the surprise of his life tonight. A cruel smile played on his mouth before he took another drink. Merlyn played the scene between Detective Lance and Oliver over at the door to the arrow cave over and over in his mind. Down to the minute eye twitches and weighted stares between he and Oliver shared before the door was opened and the release was delicious.
How dare he, Merlyn commented in his head in a rather smug tone, how dare he keep such secrets from people who care about him. I was here all this time, alone too. After saving Dad, he never reached out to explain it to me. All I got were those sad blue eyes and mournful expressions like he was pitying me! He probably thought I couldn't understand his "grand plans". He probably thought I'm just his fun sidekick. The looser ex-billionaire who needed a job.
Eyebrows twisting down over his eyes and feeling his facial muscles tighten, Tommy sensed his temper flaring again but settled it with a quick swallow of liquor. At least his father was straight with him even if he had been distant. His father never hid his intentions and plans; in fact he was starting to open up to his son. His father, Malcolm Merlyn, was the only man he could count on now. "Good bye Oliver." Tommy whispered to himself before smashing the glass in the fireplace.
