Choosing the Darkness

It was merely an adventure for him when he first chose the darkness.
A voice had woken him from his sleep, back in the islands, telling him to follow the darkness, convincing him that it was what he wanted.
Halfway there—halfway from being fully enveloped by darkness— he almost lost his heart, just as many others had.
But something held it in place—someone who did not want him to give it up.
It was a voice all too familiar…
It was Kairi.
If he lost his heart to the darkness, he will never see her again.
And so he fought it.
When he awoke, there she was, the witch that was named Maleficent.
She wanted him to join her—the strength he had shown in surviving the battle against the darkness had impressed her greatly.
He was hesitant, his instincts telling him that there were many things she was not telling him.
But soon enough, he made his choice.
He chose to play along with her games.
It was when he learned that they have found Kairi.
She had lost her heart, and Maleficent knew how to get it back.
And so, Riku didn't care anymore when Sora believed he's made the wrong decision— choosing the dark side.
For him, he was not wrong to choose it.
His choice had given him the chance to find Kairi, and it's only a matter of time before he restored her heart.
She is with him now, and it's all that matters.
It was only right.
This was written last year, along with a drabble in Kairi's POV that I haven't yet published. So this is from KH1, a game I so enjoyed but had to stop playing because of my job. That means I really don't know if Maleficent and Riku's first meeting was revealed in detail, nor if it was said how Riku battled the darkness the night the three of them were separated. I wondered, and this is what I came up to. When I stopped playing, I have just entered the End of the Worlds, and if possible, please avoid giving spoilers should you want to review. As you may already have guessed, I do not own Kingdom Hearts. But I own a keyblade! Kairi's flower keyblade, and I made it myself. It can't unlock anything, but it's awesome in cosplay pics. So colorful... ^_^;
