Hazel Grace Lancaster died only two months after his best friend was taken from this world. His last friend had died, leaving him a without all 5 legs, 4 eyes, and 2 and 1/2 pairs of working lungs. Now he only had his own legs and his own pair of lungs and no eyes. No one really understood the pain he felt.
He met her just days before Hazel's funeral. They were both at the hospital, too afraid of what was going to become of their friend.
Somehow they clung to each other, and Isaac wished he could see this world one more time, but to see this world lacking Augustus Waters and Hazel Lancaster was a world he couldn't imagine.
She listened as he ranted, hugged him when he was so broken that he couldn't continue, and he did the same for her.
It only took him 3 days to fall in love with Monica. But with her, it only took 8 seconds. Those 8 seconds he felt her presence in the hospital, sitting beside him as his last friend took her last breath, were all it took.
