"God and Laptops"

I have had my trusted HP Pavillion dv2000 since the summer of 2008. It has served me well over the past 3 years, and one could tell that I have used it a lot from all the wear and cracks that it has. Nonetheless, it is still a good laptop, and I even named it – Lawrence the Second. Call me crazy but I love my laptop. However its heavy and prolong use has taken its toll. One of the main things that I noticed was its dependence on its charger.

When I first got my laptop it had a battery life of about 6 hours and when it was on Power Saver mode it was a little longer. I was able to transport my laptop to many places without having to worry that it would shut down. But as soon as the battery was low, I would hook it on the charger till it was back to 100%. Sometimes I would even let my laptop be attached to the charger, even though it didn't even need it. Over time I noticed that when I tried to use my laptop without its charger, it would quickly die and have a low battery. I couldn't even watch my one hour shows without worrying if my laptop would just shut down in the middle of the episode. My awesome laptop went from about 6-7 hour battery life to barely holding an hour without its charger. Because of such inconvenience, I can't bring my laptop to school without dragging the charger with it, and the laptop is heavy enough.

So what does this have to do with God? Or even Christianity? Well a lot actually. Like "Larry the Laptop", we were independent and thought we can last so long by ourselves. However our battery, or spiritual life, got low, and we realized that we needed a charger—someone or something to bring us back up again, and bring us new life. That charger is Jesus. When we were connected to Him, slowly but surely our battery life grew. And soon we were back to our old selves again and felt like we didn't need Him anymore, so on our own we went. But it wasn't long till we hit the pits and needed Jesus to charge us yet again.

Like my laptop who couldn't spend even an hour without its charger we realized that we couldn't live without our Savior. The more that we spent time with Him, the more realized that we are dead without Him. No matter how hard we tried to be on our own, we quickly fell back into sin, and needed that jolt of charge that only daily communion with our Savior gave.

Spend time with God and let Him reside in your heart. Let Him be first in your life, because without Him you wouldn't even have a life to live.

God bless.
