Lance Sweets loved his family. They weren't a normal family by any means, but they were definitely a family. Booth acted like his father sometimes, and became overprotective when he got hurt. (There was an incident in which he had been nearly shot by a suspect, but Booth had stopped her from doing anything.) Dr. Brennan acted like a mom sometimes. The other day, she had told him to pick something else to eat at the diner because he had chosen something unhealthy!
Angela was the cool aunt of the group, while the Cam, Hodgins, and the interns were his siblings. That's why Lance loved his family. Daisy was a part of that family too, even though no one but him knew it yet.
That's why he had accepted Hodgins' offer to go over to his house for a New Year's party. Everyone was attending, and it seemed like fun. Lance couldn't wait to get there.
"Lancelot, how do I look?" Daisy asked her boyfriend right before they left the apartment. The intern was extremely excited about tonight.
Sweets turned around to look at her. He smiled. "You look beautiful tonight." He meant it. Lance thought this was the most beautiful she had ever looked. He was definitely going to tell her that at midnight.
Daisy giggled. "I love you, Lancelot." She leaned over and kissed him. The two started to make out.
The couple pulled apart a few minutes later. "I love you too," Lance whispered. He grabbed Daisy's hand, and they walked out the door.
Upon arriving at Hodgins' house, Daisy pulled her boyfriend to the living room. Booth and Brennan were ignoring everybody, involved in their own conversation. Cam, Michelle, and Angela were just watching them. "What's going on?" asked Lance.
"They're having a conversation about New Year's traditions," Cam explained. Booth and Brennan had originally started talking about holiday movies, oddly enough, and it had evolved from there.
"Why?" Daisy was curious about that. Booth and Dr. Brennan's conversations were always weird.
"I told you before. This is always the way they act. They go off by themselves and have private conversations. Everyone around them is ignored." Lance felt like he knew their habits very well. He had been helping them for several years now.
Daisy shrugged and went off to get something to eat. Lance sat down on a chair next to Booth and Brennan. They continued to ignore him, lost in their own world. "Guys?" When he didn't get an answer, Lance gave up.
Daisy came back a few minutes later with Clark, Wendell, and Nigel in tow. Hodgins had invited all of the interns, figuring one of them would complain if he didn't.
"What are you going to do tomorrow?" Angela asked Lance and Daisy around 11:30. She hoped they had fun plans.
Lance shrugged. "Probably just lay around and watch TV." They hadn't really planned on doing anything at all, except relax. It was hard for Daisy to relax, but she was determined to do it.
When midnight and 2010 rolled around, Lance and Daisy were one of the couples kissing. They wished their friends happiness in the new year.
Lance was thrilled to have started 2010 with the people he considered family.
There was nowhere else he'd rather be.
