A/N: I have always loved Haji. He seems so sad in the anime, so obviously in love with Saya, who just doesn't see it til its too late. I've always wondered, what do chevalliers do when their queens are sleeping? Well, Diva's chevalliers are making money. But what about Haji? Please R&R

Thoughts

She slept, and he wandered. Hong Kong. London. New Orleans. Paris. He wandered, and he thought.

He thought about life, and about fate. Life had brought him to Joel and The Zoo.

Fate had brought him to Saya. He'd watched her as he'd grown, becoming a man even as she'd remained untouched by the years. He'd seen the blood Joel and Amshel had her drink, the fact that her cuts healed immediately, and he'd known.

Saya wasn't human. Joel had confirmed it when he had confronted him about it. In the end, it hadn't mattered. Haji had already fallen in love with her.

Then came the fall from the cliff while going after those flowers for her. His life had effectually ended that night. Would have ended permanently if not for Saya giving him her blood.

He was completely devoted to Saya. Her happiness and safety were his only considerations. He stood st her side as her friend and protector, watching over her during her long sleeps.

Then they woke her up. The Red Shield. As he'd wandered in the forest, looking for threats to her safety, they'd used his blood to waken Saya before her sleep ended.

It was too late by the time he realized what was happening. Saya had woken in a mindless rage. He'd lost his arm as a result. As her chevallier, he hadn't been able to defend himself against her. Nor had he wanted to. He deserved the punishment. He'd failed to protect her. From the Red Shield, and from herself, for the actions of this night would haunt the gentle girl forever. If he hadn't cooperated with their tests, they wouldn't have had his blood to wake her before her time.

Once again she slept. After ensuring her safety, he left the Red Shield, and he wandered. And he thought.

He wished they were regular humans, free to love and live out their lives together. He would have had a good job, and she would have raised their family.

No, that wasn't right. If she'd have been a regular woman, he never would have met her. Nor would he have all eternity to spend with her. This was how it should be.

He finally made peace with himself in Paris. This was his fate, and it was one he would have chosen, if he'd have had the option to choose.

Then Saya woke up again. Haji watched her, once again living as part of a human family, with no memories of her past, or him. He watched and he waited for his master to call.

He would wait for her forever.
