His heart was pounding, his hands nervously at his sides. Harry Potter watched the door with a nervous glance. He was about to confront his past again, by checking up on the Dursley's. He'd defeated Voldemort, and his minions were safely locked away. All was well.
It was alright for his relatives to come out of hiding.
He rang the doorbell, and a clang sounded through the house. Light footsteps, and then...
"Harry?" It was Aunt Petunia, and her expression was of deep surprise.
Harry smiled tentatively. "Aunt Petunia. I wondered if I might come in – "
She peered out, as if to find a bunch of demented wizards following him, then ushered him inside.
Somebody was coming down the stairs. "Dudley!" Harry greeted him.
"What'r you doing here?" he asked, then shook his hand quickly. Harry grinned.
"It's nice to see you, too. I just came to tell you that you're safe. My lot won't bother you anymore,"
Then he noticed that the Dursley's largest family member was missing.
"Where's Vernon?" Harry asked curiously.
"Exploded." Aunt petunia said curtly. "Too many potato chips. Thank goodness."
Harry looked at his feet. Vernon was gone? "Well," Harry said. "I've fulfilled my purpose. You can go back, if you want. Bye," He turned and walked out.
Petunia watched him with a slight smile on her face. Perhaps someday they would get along. She wanted to. She always had. Vernon had always frightened her into cruelty when it came to him.
"Uh – Harry!" she called before she could change her mind. He turned around. "Would – would you like to come in for tea?"
He smiled. "I'd be delighted." he said, walking back to her.
She was feeling quite happy herself. Baby steps, she told herself. One thing at a time. She would make up for those sixteen horrible years. All she needed was time.
A/N: I was freakishly bored. As usual. Not very long, or good, but if you want to brighten my day, reviews are absolutely lovely. Plus, I'll give you a yummy Hagrid rock cake. If you want one.
