I was invited to a party and I should be partying right now but I decided not to go because I prefer writing fanfiction and watching movies than getting drunk 3
There are a lot of stories out there about how the world/Avengers reacted to Tony Stark's 'death,' so I decided to make one about how they reacted after they discovered he was alive. The world, I mean.
I know I said I was going to post up another chapter of Smoke, Diamonds and Ashes, but I got sidetracked by that oneshot I posted last week.
This is just a short drabble :)
Disclaimer: I do not own the Avengers.
The Illusionist
The day the world found out Tony Stark was alive, was the day that the world knew they were in the presence of something extraordinary.
The morning after Tony and Pepper defeated the Mandarin and brought down AIM, the news of the apparent billionaire's survival was splashed on every front page worldwide.
The title – The Magician – Tony Stark survives tryst with the Mandarin.
And in the article, was a picture of the battle, in which a photographer was able to get a sharp enough picture of Tony on the ground, blood running down his face, facing off with a glowing man in front of him.
In another picture, various Iron Man suits were scattered all over the venue, and had Tony captured in a pose where he was falling, but was being captured and partly enclosed in an Iron Man suit.
And perhaps, the world underestimated him.
Oh, how far he's come.
He was something terrifying and strange and beautiful, someone not everyone knew how to love.
And yet they did.
They loved, maybe not before he became Iron Man, but they do now. It was like magic, how easily he transformed from one persona to another at a snap of a finger.
But maybe that's the point. He's a magician, and anything and everything of his entire being has been an illusion his entire life.
He was scared, of being brilliant but unloved, because he wasn't exactly the ideal role model for a man.
But he's a hero, he always was and he always will be, and perhaps the world misjudged him too soon. Because they were in the presence of a man who was invincible, who, it seems under any circumstances, will come out strong and triumphant, with a winning smile despite the blood running down his face.
As the world reflected, they discovered that Tony Stark was a man who was indeed, extraordinary, who was invincible and strong and brave and scared and human.
Because he bleeds, there is blood running through his veins and a soul underneath his skin, because he's a hero and heroes are people and he is no exception. But he's brave and strong and nothing can change that, because this is his life, and how it's a wonder to those around how he can always come out on top and not shatter under the presence of his bones.
Because life's an illusion and Tony Stark is the magician, because he can disappear and then reappear, and people wouldn't clap until he did because they knew he'd come back. Because Tony Stark has always been invincible and had just hid behind a façade and a mask and an illusion his entire life.
And the world regrets it, because maybe they shouldn't have misjudged him, and in turn, maybe they learned that they shouldn't misjudge themselves.
Because like Tony Stark, they are more than what they say they are, they just don't see it.
And maybe, out of all people, Tony Stark has shown them the true meaning of bravery and beauty and acceptance.
Because he has the ability to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary.
Like I said, just a drabble :) Hope it wasn't that bad, I wrote this up in 10 minutes!
Now I shall watch Iron Man 2 and bask in the glory and the bravery that is Tony Stark 3
