Five Year Ache

When she was fourteen it didn't matter. She figured it would be like Neal and pass through. It was nothing but a low attraction.
When she was fifteen she gave herself the excuse of Knighthood when that low attraction became friendship and a steady beating in her stomach.
When she was sixteen she used Cleon as her excuse. Honestly, she cared deeply for her and wasn't honestly using him. She never led him on to believing marriage. He was a good way to forget about the steady thump and focus on the shallower faster one.
When she was seventeen the question arose and unfortunately the answer. Who did she love more? The answer was easy and it was the first that came to mind. Him.
When she was eighteen Cleon left and was forced into marriage. Although she was upset for her friend having to marry against his pleasure, she was glad that it wasn't her ending the relationship. That steady beat was getting faster and harder to maintain. She had the war.
When she turned nineteen she confronted herself about it and discovered that that five year ache wasn't just an attraction passing through. It had started like that, became friendship and now, well now she understood it.
When she was twenty she found out that her five year ache now a six year one was returned. And the reasons behind both of those aches were just excuses.
When she was twenty one she found her bliss with that ache and couldn't ask for more.
