I was scrolling through the site and got this idea. So, I took it and put it into a story.

But I'm sorry if it's not all that great - it's summer and I'm at a writer's block.

I do not own Adventure Time. Pen Ward, his team, and Cartoon Network do. I simpily write works of fiction based on it.

Have fun reading!

P.S. I know the font is rather small. If you need it bigger (or smaller, I guess?) on the right-hand side up across the category listing and the name of the story, there should be a few buttons. Hit the B button to make the text larger, and the s button to make it smaller. The A's just change the font.

The sun cascaded down through the barracks of the castle. The day was pristine, except for a few threatening rainclouds in the distance which threatened to drop their contents at any given moment. The girl sitting under the blocked sun hadn't even noticed, however, as she was in deep thought.

"Well, I kind of... I really like you."

"I know, Fionna. You're a good friend of mine too," the pink-clad prince uttered with a polite and sincere gaze on his face. Fionna felt her heart crumble in the pit of her chest. That wasn't supposed to happen!

She had half-expected him to confess his undying love for her. But who was she kidding? A prince wouldn't love her – no, couldn't love her. Ever. As simply as he put it, they were just friends, plain and simple.

"Oh."Her lips split apart, sending sound out with it. "I… I feel the same way, Prince." Smiling hurt worse than a thousand daggers digging into her, but she forced herself to do it anyway. She just wished he'd look into her eyes. Maybe then he'd know how she felt.

Fionna curled up into a tight ball in the summer sun, letting the warming rays bask into her back. It didn't help to comfort her, so the young teenager resorted to something she used to do long ago, when she was still a young child, in the comfort of Cake's cozy home.

Fionna clutched her head and drew it in close to her knees, secluding the outside world. It was such a brutal place, filled with betrayal, love, and hate. This way, she couldn't see the world, and the world often passed her by.

"Why can't he love me?" she whispered into the empty air.

He'd never love a human. The thought echoed in her mind. Maybe it was true. Who'd love a human, the last of her kind? Certainly not a prince who needed to pass purity on down his bloodline. She wasn't even sure he could have children.

Fionna hated her body. It seemed to punish her for being human. Surely the monthly pains she had been getting were a punishment. And this awkward figure! How could she live with it? She was so curvy, while all the other women of the world were built straight and skinny.

Fionna brushed a few strands of fallen blonde hair from her eyes and tucked it back into her hat. She had given ample hints to Prince Gumball that she had head-over-heels fallen for him, but he had never caught on to any of them. He seemed to be oblivious.

Her head meagerly poked up, allowing her eyes to scope the area. No immediate danger was present, but the rain clouds were edging even nearer as she gazed at them.

Rain never seemed to phase her, unlike what it did to many citizens of the Candy Kingdom, as well as her best friend Cake. It had a calming effect, all until the moment the coldness began to seep into her bones.

She looked up to the bright pink castle, scrutinizing its inhabitant under her gaze. Her eyebrows furrowed. Fionna would have to retreat home soon and make dinner for herself, but the questions still lingered and glued her to the ground. Maybe she could ask Prince Gumball for herself someday.

She used her sturdy legs to prop herself up onto her own two feet and took a few wobbly steps towards home.

Within moments, the dark mass of clouds spilled out their contents onto the world.

And Fionna smiled.
