Hi all this is a rewrite of my first chapter. I don't own anything belonging to the Harry Potter World, Only OC characters and places. Please give me any feedback as this story is a constant work in progress.
The smell of pine and smoke wafted into my small room. I close my eyes hoping that the smell wouldn't leave. My trunk and owl were waiting by my bedroom door. I looked around the closet trying to store away every memory that would stay in this room, in this house even. I could hear the bangs of the other children bustling around the home. I was stuck in a children's home. 'Home for Witch and Wizard Orphans' is the official name. That's where you go when your magical parents die and there is no other family to claim you. Both my parents were only children and I have no grandparents either.
I was now the oldest here and on my way to Hogwarts. September the first, a day of new beginnings. Well that's what the house warden said anyway. One less child to worry about.
"Rose! Hurry up," calls Pippa. Pippa looked after us girls in the house and tried to make it as pleasant while they tried to put us with a family.
I push my trunk and owl out the door and carefully down the stairs. I had seen a boy take his frog down in his cage but when he tripped the house warden didn't see the green thing as his foot came down.
Pippa was waiting by the front door with a few kids around her.
"We're going to apparate," she explains. "It's a lot faster and I must be back to make lunch."
I nod, my throat swelling up as I hug some of the children.
Pippa gives me a small smile and I grab hold of her arm. In a flash we were gone, leaving behind the grey walls, brown floors, and the sad looking children. The air then chills and I see the famous black and red train waiting for everyone to board. People were everywhere, saying goodbye to family and greeting friends. I try to quickly take in all the smells and noises surrounding me.
"Now Rose," says Pippa kneeling in front of me. "Please behave and look after yourself. Be true to who you are and don't let what happened to your parents define who you are."
I hug her tight and she gives me a squeeze. She then apparate's before I can say anything in return. The train conductor blows his whistle for the last call. After I load my belongings, I try to find an empty compartment. The train pulls away from the station and children run in between carriages, greeting each other. I finally find an empty compartment and I watch the scenery change out the window. My eyes start to get heavy as I watch the train roll through the mountains.
"Oh, sorry I thought this was empty," says a red headed boy. He was tall and has a mischievous look in his eyes. He shuts the door and sits across from me. "My names George. George Weasley." I shake his hand already noticing the calloused touch.
"My names Rose Grey," I reply.
"Grey as in the aurors?" he asks surprised but still shaking my hand.
"Yea," I say pulling my hand away.
My parents were aurors in the time of the wizarding war. But one-night Fenrir Greyback come to our house and killed my parents. It was on the news for days and then a month later the Potters were killed too. The only things I have to remember them by is newspaper clippings.
"That's cool, you must be wicked good at magic," George comments as he peers down the hallway through the glass door. He slides out the door. "I have to fly Rose Grey, but it was a pleasure making your acquaintance." He give me a bow before racing down the hallway.
A few minutes later a plump lady pushes past with a trolley full of sweets. I don't purchase anything, the food from this morning already churching in my stomach. I knew my mum was Ravenclaw and my dad was from Gryffindor but I couldn't help but worry that I would get sorted into Slytherin. My father was a muggleborn, making me a halfblood witch. No one at the home had an issue with me being a halfblood but from what I have heard, Slytherins are full of purebloods who hate mud bloods. That's what I heard the wardens say late one night anyway.
The door slides open and in pops George and another boy who is an exact copy of George.
"Fred this is the girl I was telling you about," says George as the both sit down across from me.
"So your parents were the Grey Auror's?" Asks Fred.
I nod my head.
"She's a first year," comments George.
"We are so going to get Grey in Gryffindor," says Fred. "Can you see the look on Woods face when we tell him. He'lol recruit her on the spot."
"Recruit me for what?" I ask.
"Quidditch of course," they say in unison.
"We play Beaters," says George sitting on the edge of his seat.
"But recon she could play seeker," says Fred. "We are desperately looking for a seeker after our brother Charlie finished school last year."
"I don't think my parents played Quidditch," I comment.
"Oh they didn't, well we know your dad didn't because we have gone through all the school Qudditch team lists," says Fred. "We were going to change all the last names. So James Potter would have become James Plopper." They both laugh.
"That was such a first year prank," says George. "We have no idea if your mum played but if she did she would have been good as Ravenclaw don't ever do very well."
"Then why do you want me on your team if neither of my parents played?" I ask them.
"They were amazing aurors!" They both say almost jumping off their seats. "And just because they didn't play doesn't mean they were rubbish at it. You should try out anyway, you'll never know until your try."
The train lets out a large honk.
"We must be nearly there," says George and they both jump up.
"We need to pull of one more prank before we stop," says Fred.
"For the whole year?" I ask confused.
"Stop for dinner," they say together
