Summary: "Bit," I say, giving her a long penetrating stare. "Lung cancer and a DUI in the making... what are you after? And is it illegal?"
A/N Post "Destiny" Mini-ficlet
"What's the occasion, luv?" I ask, taking her hand and twirling her around. Her dress flutters up as she spins; the fabric's frothy and looks about as lightly spun blue as the cotton candy I bought her that one time. Well, not bought, I nicked it, either way, she enjoyed it.
"No occasion," she says. "I liked it and I had money."
"First paycheck then." I grin; been here 'bout a week, and Angel said he was gonna forward her some cash, help little bit get on her feet. Bet the sod still feels guilty 'bout that time he tortured Rupes in front of her. Payin' her off to ease the pain of his many past transgressions would make me mad, but she's spending some of it on me. Can't argue with cheap American beer and stolen cigarettes at four o' clock in the evening.
Too damn early.
"Beer, cigs, pretty girl..." She ducks her head at my compliment. "Bit," I say, giving her a long penetrating stare. "Lung cancer and a DUI in the making... what are you after? And is it illegal?"
She just gives me a secret smile. "You'll like it."
"Illegal it is then." Giving a long suffering sigh that's just for show, I gesture down the hall with the six-pack. "Lead the way, missy."
The evening starts off with her climbing in the driver's seat and hot-wiring Angel's Viper - the red one. All she said was that Faith taught her a few things since I died. Knowing her and having known Faith, I don't doubt it.
Half a beer later, we're speeding out of the underground parking lot, passing on the shoulder, breaking all the speed-limits, and ditching sirens and flashing red and blue lights.
Keepin' her eyes on the rode, she reaches for the radio. Dawn fiddles with the knobs till the steady pound and wail of rock music spews through the speakers.
Nibblet was right, I do like it.
