"Reid, seriously, that looks like you're trying to hide a dead body underneath the sheets." Morgan shook his head at the remarkable level of disorganization the young doctor displayed when it came to such a simple household chore as making a bed.
It didn't happen very often that they had to make their beds themselves, but here, with an unsub wreaking havoc in the middle of nowhere and them accommodated in a hunting lodge, there was no other choice.
"Actually the bed is a very common hiding place for dead bodies. 14.7% of all murder cases in a domestic environment have the body of the victim hidden in or under the bed. In hotel rooms…"
"Don't change the subject, Reid…"
The doctor's shoulders slumped. "I…"
Morgan suddenly realized that in the home Reid grew up, with a mother suffering from bad mental problems, making a bed probably had been way down on the list, with somehow making sure to get warm meals, fresh clothes and new shoes every now and then occupying the top spots. He didn't let him finish the sentence.
"Don't sweat it. Not everybody had police academy training." He walked over to Reid's bed. "Look, first you place the bottom sheet over the mattress, tuck it around the corners and smooth it down as flat as possible…" He tugged at Reid's messy blankets, removed them from the bed completely, demonstrated the maneuver and then let Reid repeat it. "Afterwards you place the top edge of the top sheet even with…"
Ten minutes later Emily walked past the room that was assigned to Reid, peeked into it, stopped and stared, open-mouthed. "Wow, Dr. Reid, wish I could make a bed like that!"
Reid beamed like a first-grader presenting a model of the solar system at his first science fair. Morgan remained hidden behind the half-opened door till Emily had disappeared.
