How Will I Be Remembered?
by: Megaraptor
Every scientist leaves behind some legacy....
Some great discovery. Some invention. Something that will forever make them live on, if not physically, then in their work.
And how will I be remembered...?
... My name is Doctor Cain. I am the former geologist that unearthed the remains of Dr. Thomas Light's laboratory. I was the one who discovered Megaman X. I was the one... the one who produced the first Reploid, based on X's design.
Now reploids are everwhere...
.... and so are the Mavericks.
Mavericks. How could I not have seen this coming? A reploid has the power to think for itself. What's to stop it from deciding on its own to fight humans? No... I couldn't see that. I thought it was always some sort of error. A malfunction.
... but it wasn't. And despite my efforts, not even Sigma could be stopped from going Maverick. Now, he is one. And because of him, many more reploids have become Mavericks, unwillingly...
... there's not a day goes by that I wonder what would've happened if I'd never gone on that dig.
.... if I hadn't opened that capsule with that strange blue robot in it...
And so here I am, in the quiet of my room, in the Maverick Hunters Headquarters, writing this and beginning to drown my sorrows in a bottle of whiskey. And I wonder, years from now, how I will be remembered...
.... as a person who brought into the world a race that would accompany humans...
..... or as the man who created that which would destroy them....

X sighed as he put down the diary. He closed his eyes, and looked over at the old man passed out on a bed, holding an empty whiskey bottle in his hand.
X knew he shouldn't have read it. But it was lying on the desk, wide open when X had come in, looking for the doctor. He couldn't help himself...
"Someday Dr. Cain... someday..." they blue robot said.
With that, he left, turning off the light.
