"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." - Thomas Alva Edison
It's been a couple of weeks since Lois had last seen or heard from her little sister, Lucy. And for the past two weeks, Lois herself had spent a great deal of time re-evaluating her life. The dissappointment she felt when she learned that her baby sister wasn't who she thought she was gave her a better understanding as to why people have expectations.
Looking back, she was so fixated on the fact that she wholeheartedly believed Lucy was the only child of General Lane who had a future. Now, she wasn't so sure. Had she been so naive all these years to think she didn't have a future as well?
Probably.
Lois and her rebellious nature had always brought out her inner cynicsm. So much so that it prevented her from pursuing any kind of dreams, because for years, she refused to dream them.
Sighing, Lois looked out the window and saw The Kent's leaving in the truck. She smiled to herself as she watched the happy family go about their day. To most people, the sight would be described as normal, but to her, it was magnificent.
Her attention then drifted towards Lucy's violin case. Her baby sister had been playing since she was old enough to carry it. Laughing at the thought, she remembered days when she would watch Lucy and her violin teacher practice, and to her, it was always a beautiful sight.
It's amazing how easily you lose yourself in your art, everything and everyone around you fading in the background.
Opening the case, Lois traced the outline of the instrument with her fingers.
And as she lifted it out of the case, and poised it on her shoulder, she played. She played for so long, she hadn't realized that nearly an hour had passed.
Getting out of the truck. "What's that sound?" Martha asked curiously, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"I'm not sure sweetheart," her husband replied, getting out of the truck himself.
Clark headed toward the porch steps with a bunch of groceries. "Sounds like one of Lucy's CDs. Lois is probably listening to it." Clark look at his parents, their faces looking up and their mouths agape. "Mom. Dad. What's wrong?" His mother only responded with a point of a finger.
Clark looked up, too, wondering what they were staring at.
As if time had stopped, his line of vision caught the sight of the last person he imagined playing classical violin.
Lois.
"Clark, did you know she could play?" His mom whispered to him.
He shrugged. "I had no idea"
"She's good," Jonathan observed. "Really good"
The Kent's simply stood aground, listening in awe as Lois unknowingly played for an audience below.
Martha smiled, thinking that everything she has seen Lois Lane to be, that there was a genius within her, aching to come out.
And Clark. He knew that there was a lot of things about Lois he didn't know about, but it seemed like, every new discovery about her astounds or surprises him. She's quickly becoming the one person in his life he seems to be growing more attached to, and he wasn't quite sure whether that was a good or bad thing.
But Clark did know one thing for sure - Since meeting Lois Lane, she has definitely made his life a little more interesting, and he couldn't help but smile about it.
The End
