I thought of this forever ago, but I thought I'd post it. Meh. Feels.

He stood at the window, looking out into space, his back to me. I didn't want to startle him, but I had no way of moving to him. I looked down, not wanting to yell, when I saw that my legs… They were on the ground… I could move! Just like a normal person. If a normal person had blue skin and hair. I smiled, taking the first step towards him.

He turned around as I came near. "Cortana… How?" He stuttered, surprised.

"Oh, I'm the strangest thing you've seen all day?" I laughed. "I can think for myself, can't I? Who's to say I can't walk?"

"What are you doing here?" He asked. "You're supposed to be at the command deck."

I shrugged. "I know. I wanted to see you first." Before he could say anything, I closed the remaining distance between us and hugged him, resting my head on his chest. He tensed, but didn't move.

"I've waited so long to do that." I whispered the sadness evident in my voice. I knew it wouldn't last. None of it would. I just wanted one moment to be with him. My emotion towards him should have been impossible. Any real emotion should have been impossible.

I pulled back, not looking at him.

"You should go." He said, not looking at me.

I didn't answer, instead lifting my hands to his helmet. He didn't stop me from removing it. I slowly lifted my eyes to his face, but before I could look, I suddenly woke up.

I was in a dark room, objects and debris floating around. I was still in the ship Forward Unto Dawn. Then I remembered. We were still in the ship.

I focused my attention on what had made me wake, a beeping noise, and an urgent pre-recorded voice repeating mayday over and over again. I pulled it up with the main computer screen, searching for the source. I slid my hand across the screen, looking through the ship's damaged armor, and then glancing at the 6% power that was left in the remaining half.

WARNING! UNEXPLAINED COURSE ALTERATION DETECTED. GRAVITATIONAL FORCES UNDERWAY. SPEED INCREASING.

Big letters screamed at me. I slid my hand across the screen again, looking at the section of data that read POD 9939 DECK 4. My hand hesitated over the reactivate button, knowing if I didn't the ship would most likely be destroyed in its current state with us still on board. I looked up at the Cryopod, then back at the screen, then back and forth. I took a deep synthesized breath, set my eyebrows in determination, and pressed the activation button. I heard a hiss as the cryosleep started to wear off.

"Welcome back, John." I whispered.
